After reading some dubious comments about this place I was apprehensive in staying here on my arrival in Chennai so I went next door to Paradise after a day there I had a look at the rooms here and decided to give this a shot, in my opinion this place wins hands down if your after something a bit more... Great old buildings with courtyards, trees, greenery. Big terraces on roofs tops. Simple room with high ceiling. Good quality / price ratio. Fashioned charm, that quiet place is perfect to rest from the bustle of the capital.

Charming 'hotel' because of the company of fellow neighbors and the beautiful old architecture of the place. For some quiet privacy it will do. Decent money exchange, the staff can get a bit invading on personal space, but harmless. The beds are hard but good for your back... In a city like this everything is dusty so be prepared to... I had stayed here 25 years ago when I was a little kid, and my Dad tells me the place hasn’t changed a bit when we revisited, the paintwork is crumbling and the place is in a state of disrepair. However, do not let this fool you. We did not expect to find such reasonably priced, large rooms in Chennai.... More

Nice to have a room for less than 800 ruppee in the center of chennai. Ask for the private cottages on the roof top. The building is old and the bathroom is very basic, however it's quite and a solid location for a stopover

“Broadlands” remains the classic Chennai lodge for many good reasons: First of all, it is a charming, over two hundred year old building with two courtyards and a large accessible roof with a view of the Great Mosque which wakes up even the most exhausted traveler when the Muezzin calls for the first prayer of the day. Then, it is... More

Some people will find the Broad Lands, two words, a dump. I found it an absolute jewel, elegant in her fading glory. My room had 16 foot ceilings, two big ceiling fans, large bed, desk and chair. Beautifully shuttered doors and windows that should have been replaced 50 years ago. Explore the nooks and crannies to find a magical property.... More

Broadlands was the first and best hotel we had in India so far. The price is good and the rooms are the good kind of basic. The place has a special feel to it. The tree in the court and rooftop make it a calming place in the middle of Chennai's busy center. The staff is really great. Especially Raja... More

I haven't managed to know about this supposed "no indians" policy, which would definitely be a let down. However, apart from that it's a great place. Crumbling, indeed. But it still has this special feeling. We had a room on the first floor, which was absolutely worth its price. No hot water, simple but sufficient features. The place is quite... More

Firstly, this place is a good choice if you're accustomed to travel in India and budget accommodation in India. Yes, it's a bit dirty and the beds are a bit lumpy but it's OK. The building itself (and old colonial house) is quite charming, in that crumbling held together with paint sort of way. The manager is a very friendly... More
