I loved this beautiful guest house. I told my brother to go there on his trip to India. I will hope to return at some point in the next years. An excellent place to go if spending some time in chennai.

Don't let the mixed reviews of nostalgic or young uber-bohemian backpackers fool you into thinking this is an ok place to stay a few nights--it's an absolute dump. Maybe if you just want to meet other backpackers or are under 25 years old, you might like it here as some obviously have, but my partner and I, who have stayed... More

I love this place, I've stayed here twice already on my trip, for 2 days then two wks and ill be back for another week. The roof terrace was awesome on diwali! The staff are so friendly and helpful. The building had lots of character but is comfy.

If I could give this zero stars I would. The room was a dump, the beds were rock hard, the sheets were dirty, there were no towels, no toilet paper, and when we tried to shower, the water stopped completely. Then the tap in the sink stopped as well. So no shower, no clean teeth, and we ran to a... More

Cheap and central location in an old colonial building. Communal area to meet other travellers or to watch some soccer games on the television. Short walk from the beach. Budget friendly with helpful staff. I you want luxury, go to a hotel

Broadlands Hotel is an old hotel with poor services, but if you are looking for a cheap hotel, (acceptable) clean room, air-con, and most of all: an old Indian house, you are looking at right place. It's located near the beach (and the city center), so you may want to wake up early to take a walk to see the... More

Shocking experience here. If you've got no other options it's good for a one night stop. First of all 2 WHOLE DAYS after checking in i was asked if i had paid my deposit. I had paid a deposit of 450 rupees, which i was flat out told by one of the staff he was 'DAMN SURE' i hadn't and... More

I spent 2 days there in February 2014. Hotel is not expensive and this is the main advantage. The place has unique atmosphere which is difficult to describe. It could be really lovely if well-mantained. Rooms are simple but quite clean. Wi-fi is only downstairs and they charge for an hour.

We stayed there in March 2013 for one night. When we were there the facilities were run-down, however the house complex itself is really beautiful. But typically Indian: really nice place, but not maintained. The manager is friendly, but very bureaucratic. The area around the hostel is also okay and not too far from the central railway station. Getting to... More

Now, I won't pretend that Broadlands is for everybody. Indeed, it's a bit of an acquired passion. You need a bit of soul to dig it, because that's what this place is all about.. Soul. It's a great rambling grubby place; full of odd nooks crannies and secrets. Good ghosts haunt it; old ravens roost in the eves and great... More
