Mumbai is a beautiful wonderful city and Colaba is the down and dirty touristy part of it. Try avoiding staying here even if you are a backpacker. Fort area closer to public transport (Trains - starts at 5 rupees - avoid rush hours 7am to 11am). Price & Room If you have to stay in Colaba the Carlton Hotel is... More

Mumbai is expensive, especially around the Colaba area. This hotel is right in the heart of Colaba and for £20 a night it is great value for money. We were in one of the newly decorated rooms which was very clean and quirky with a good fan. The shared bathrooms (there's a choice of 4) are clean with a nice... More

This hotel is behind the Taj Mahal, and close to a very good restaurant, called Alpes. Apart from that, this Hotel has nothing else to offer to their costumers but dirty beds, bad smells, humidity and the serious face of the owners. Dnt thing I'm coming back again to this Hotel.

Located behind the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in the Colaba district this first floor simple hotel has a mixture of air conditioned rooms, with and without bathrooms. We stayed in a room with two double beds and fan. Given that room prices in Mumbai are high this room offered good value. The bathrooms are of a high standard but get... More

Lousy hotel well located near Taj Mahal Hotel. Noisy boys and older employee. Instead of sleeping you may find yourself listening to their loud chatter all night long. When I asked late afternoon check out the owner or big boss guy wanted to rip me a full days fee off. Then he tried to sell me his taxi to the... More

We know this hotel for many years as we used to live in India and stay there every fortnight. At first we thought it was a catch as the location is ideal, and we've made personal connections with the staff. But after a while incidents started happening each time we came back - someone tried taking photos of my wife... More

The place has good ventilation and the beds are ok. You're in tout heavy Colaba but it's good to be there overall. The hotel owners are the least friendly hotel owners I've met in a while. And that's saying something for India. I did feel safe here.

To be fair, this is a clean place with decent ventilation. Beggars can't be choosers in Mumbai (we're pretty much all beggars there). 900 for a single, 1400 for a double. My complaint is that I definitely paid for a night and the guy forgot to write it down and they tried to charge me twice. I had to pack... More

I paid 900 for a very small partial room next to the main desk. It was not the cleanest room, but besides mosquitoes did not have other visible bugs. The bathrooms were surprising very clean. I only spent one night here and was exhausted so actually slept fine. I used their taxi service to the airport which worked out fine.... More

Loved our stay at Carlton. Its location is brilliant, the rooms are clean, bathrooms are of better standard than mine at home and the staff is friendly. I'll definitely choose Carlton again on my next stay in Mumbai.
