Sri Lanka was my home for 9 years until 2003 and since then I have been visiting twice a year. I think it fair to say that I have travelled throughout most of the island and have watched it suffering during wartime, struggling to recover from the tsunami and now emerging with a confidence that is great to see. In... More

First of all, the location is spectacular, right near the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary, at the edge of a traditional Sri Lankan village (Kalametiya), at about 4 km from the main road. The villagers are really friendly, so please be careful to smile and say hello to anyone. Don't worry, they won't ask you money for various "services" as it happens... More

InSept. we stayed at Taragala Place for 3 nights and we wished we could have stayed longer because we felt so good and relaxed there. It is such a peaceful and relaxed place with the beautiful view into the bird sanctuary and to Taragala rock. This we liked to climb and it is like being in paradise with the ocean... More

The personnel is descreet and very helpfull. The little town there is really nice, and safe. The beach is the most beautifful beach we saw in all Sri... More

Pretty cottages on the edge of the bird reserve. The 2 cottages feature a small basic kitchen, cold showers, comfortable beds and electricity for fans and lighting. Magdelena was on hand to make sure we got the best out of our stay, suggesting walks and local boat trips and was extremely helpful. Sri lankan food is available during your stay.... More

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Taragala Place in March 2013. The bungalow is built in traditional style which very much attracted us and it was extremely interesting. It had windows and doors open to every direction to catch the slightest breeze. There is no air conditioning but a powerful electric fan maintained a reasonable cool whilst sleeping.... More

What more can you say beyond all the wonderful comments that have already been left about this place. As others have stated if you are looking for 5* luxury, room service, air conditioning etc then this is not the place for you. If however you want to go back to basics and simply immerse yourself in something other than your... More

Just a few cottages. Beautiful and quiet surroundings. Easy access to the Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary. During my stay in Sri Lanka, I have stayed in about a dozen different places. Despite the high standard in all of the country, Taragale place absolutely stands far above all the other places. Excellent service and all the meals I enjoyed at the place... More

We stayed here for two nights half board. You hardly know you've arrived as the property has no obvious signboard and just melds into the surrounding area. Traditional clay built bungalows with shady porches overlook the Kalametiya bird reserve - binoculars and spotter book provided. Layout of the bungalows is simple and the woodwork is craftsman built. But it's not... More
