I felt like l was stepping back into time when l entered the lobby if this hotel. I could picture this place during the Victoria times with the ladies in fur coats and the wooden suitcase and the gents smoking their pipes as they conduct business. Staff was especially friendly and check in process was smooth and hassle free. We... More

From the price you pay you'll know this is never going to be the lap of luxury but its got a great colonial style harm about it and feels like it's out of a different era. You'd expect to see Miss Marple sitting in the corner watching, knitting and waiting for a murder to occur. The room was fine, old... More

+ Great location, across the street of the tooth temple. + Beautiful old colonial building + Friendly and professional staff - Extremely noisy rooms at the street side, and the busy honking traffic in Kandy never stops... - Breakfast was oke, lots of choice, but quality wasn't what it should be at a place as this.

This is definitely ones of those places you have to "go with". It's full of colonial charm, the foyer is lovely with a large staircase and vintage lift. Reception staff were great and very welcoming. Room and bathroom were clean but could perhaps do with a little update - lost of rust in the sink and the shower leaked a... More

Stayed two nights for the culmination of the Kandy Esala Perahera festival. If visiting at this time of the year then this is the place to be. The hotel is now being managed by the same team as Galle Face Hotel in Colombo but the standard does not match the quality of its Colombo counterpart. Rooms need updating, restaurant staff... More

October 2010 The hotel itself was amazing - the whole experience. However, if you've never been to Sri Lanka before, there are a few trappings you need to consider. First of all, you will be hounded by locals when you get off the train ans leave the railway station (if you travel by train), offering everything from taxi's & tuk-tuks,... More

I enjoyed my sleep in the room without any disturbances, but other matters were not of the best quality. The rooms are very old, colonial andbno wonder a few may see it as spooky. I managed to get a room facing the lake but a stupid air con machine almost blocked my view. The room accessories are very limited. Mainly... More

I booked on the Agoda website but despite a call to them the previous day, they took awhile to find my registration. My driver had to bring in my luggage because the bellboys were too busy chatting among themselves. I had arrived exhausted but even after they found my reservation I was told to wait in the lobby - for... More

We stayed (myself, my wife and daughter) two nights in this heritage hotel two years back. It is located at the heart of the city, in front of the Kandy lake. Dalada, The Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, the cultural centre and the market, are just at a walking distance from the hotel. It is a building of British colonial... More

We stayed just for one night to watch the Perahera. Excellent location for that. The staff were very attentive and the service was good. The food was very good too. However, the room we were in is in need if a face lift. It looked a little dated. That said, it is an old hotel and it wouldn't need to... More
