I was looking forward to a sty in this place, but that was probably the biggest mistake. The building is incredible piece of colonial architecture, and the location couldn´t be possibly better, but that is it. The interior is just old and as the house is loosing its glamour, so is the staff losing its enthusiasm. Such a shame! Bathroom... More

The hotel is very impressive as a piece of grand colonial architecture, but in horrible need of renovations & modernizing into the 21st century. Many electrical appliances do not function like air-conditioners & ceiling-fans. The windows don't shut properly & the ancient doors have gaping cracks due to being hung crookedly. The front office manager was extremely insulting to me... More

We stayed at the Queens Hotel in August to see the Perahera. Our Travel Agent had booked us here due to the convenience to the Perahera at a huge cost (USD300 per night + USD300 for Perahera tickets). Sadly, from the moment we arrived it was a huge disappointment. It is such a grand hotel but it seems the current... More

We stayed one night in a room on the first floor. We were grateful that in spite of the renovations carried out the Hotels old colonial past was very much in evidence. The old lift, the staircase, the boarded floors - and even the rooms provided with modern comforts held on to the old world spirit. Our room with its... More

My family and I stayed in the Queens Hotel Kandy in May. We were awoken our first night to find rats in our room. One rat was rummaging through our luggage; the other on the bedside locker next to me staring into my eyes. When we complained in the middle of the night, we were moved to another room on... More

This hotel is celebrated for its "colonial" era fittings and fittings and it is indeed full of beautiful polished wooden floors and furniture, chandeliers, an old caged lift, brass keys for rooms all of which I particularly like. Yes, it hasn't had an upgrade and that is part of its charm. It's location is superb, right in the centre of... More

Courteous and friendly staff. Neat and tidy. Book thru amex cards and you get a sizeable discount. Best place to stay with family. Very near Buddha temple and lake. Also visit the Kandy kathirgama temple nearby. The restaurant here is costly. There are several mid and low range hotels nearby in Colombo road.

I hadn't visited the hotel for at least 15 years and there seems to have had no changes. Very friendly and helpful staff, but food not too good and sorry that we are there. Still it's always nice to go to old favourites once again I think. We will visit again probably not until there has been an upgrade.

Old, fusty, antiquated and colonial - like the British Empire this hotel has seen better days, unfortunately I suspect they were more than 100 years ago. We arrived late one evening after arriving on the train, we needed a drink and retired to the bar for an aperitif. A rather large rat also had the same idea, although he soon... More

As another reviewer stated, this hotel immediately reminds you of the time of the Raj. The entire hotel is from the Victorian age. The Dining room and Lobby are particularly memorable. The negatives of the hotel is that in the Victorian age, the acoustics were not as good as today, so one can hear quite a lot of noise in... More
