Right next to the Temple of the Tooth and walking distance from the bus and railway stations the Olde Empire is a great choice of stay in Kandy. The rooms are simple but nice. All have fans, only some have windows and though most do not have en suite bathrooms, the shared bathrooms are pleasant enough. I would say that... More

Best location in kandy but awful rooms. Very dirty and one room didn't have mattresses on both beds, I got the impression they were doing renovations at the time. They tried to charge us extortionate prices so we left. The men were very unwelcoming and didn't really answer our questions.

I stayed here for 1 night only in June, and really loved it. The location was perfect in the centre of Kandy city, right next to the temple of the tooth. The room was really nice, lovely old dark furniture and white walls. Old world charm. with a lovely terrace upstairs too. The restaurant downstairs was separate and a lot... More

We were at this place between the 19th and 21st May. Centrally located, just outside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and overlooking the Kandy lake, walking distance to the Railway Station, the place is ideal for tourists. Since it is a heritage building it does not boast of state-of-the-art decor, but those who like wooden floors and period furniture this... More

If the genuine Empire experience is what you want you can't do better than visit this hotel. Providing you don't mind cold showers, which actually aren't so bad in Sri Lankan weather. Rooms are basic, can be noisy, but the hotel is friendly. There's a nice balcony space on the first floor looking out over the Tooth Temple which is... More

We arrived during the Full Moon festival and the way was blocked by a procession of ceremonial elephants! This place is right next to the Temple of the Tooth, so there's always hussle and bustle outside. And it's right in the middle of town. Saw one review complaining of bedbugs; we had no problems like that. Shared bathroom is a... More

Stayed here just one night. We were attracted by the nicely decorated restaurant (with good food!) downstairs but the hotel is something else! Ok, it was cheap but the blankets didn't smell very fresh, there were holes in the mosquito-net and it was very very hot in the room (no a/c). The staff wasn't at all helpful to remove the... More

This hotel is opposite the temple of the Tooth, right in the heart of Kandy. However at 4.30 am the Buddhist monks chant on loud speakers, then the Imam does the call to prayer from the mosque, then the flower sellers start to get their stalls ready outside the hotel. This coupled with the wooden floorboards that run length of... More

As per review last week - we stayed in a ground floor en-suite room which was terrible. Very noisy - dogs, sirens, locals clearing throat and noise from upstairs. As per above review from last week, we also found bedbugs throughout our double bed and therefore had to sleep on the floor. When we spoke to the management the next... More

The best part of the Olde Empire is probably the nice balcony which makes you want to rest there for a couple of hours. The cheaper rooms are pretty dark, have no windows and the beds are not very comfortable as well. But it’s cheap! The staff is helpful and the cafe has good but expensive coffee and breakfast. The...
