Hotel was basic but loved the "period" feel. Beautiful wooden floors and a lovely balcony - perfect to have a beer or read a book at the end of the day. Enjoyed the restaurant downstairs - after a couple of weeks in sri lanka i was happy to have some "tourist food" although portions were quite small. Overall - good... More

Realy nice hotel which is super located! Its just next to the big temple. the rooms are small, beds are comfortable, shared bathroom. very friendly employes who always try to help and serve us the best. No wifi, unless you buy something at the bar. Good value for money. Great location. We had a great stay in this hotel and... More

Wonder why Rough Guides says it only has 6 rooms. There are at least 20!! The first floor veranda is a wonderful place to people watch. I came prepared for noises but the those from the temple during morning prayer is far from expected. Friendly and helpful management who will direct you to local jewellers to change money at very... Our absolute favourite place after two weeks in Sri Lanka. Perfect base camp to get to know the city and a lovely place to come home to afterwards. There is nothing better than sitting on that terrace in the evening! Maybe sitting on that terrace with a cocktail... (No alcohol on the menue of the Empire Cafe). The cafe is... More

We didn't stay here but came to eat at the cafe downstairs twice during our 24hour stay in Kandy. The ambience was all 'old colonial' charm with, pink walls, wooden furniture, high ceilings and breezy fans keeping the inevitable city pollution at bay. The food is excellently prepared and very much leans toward a Western standard; if you need your... More

In Kandy it was a bit difficult to find a cheap stay which is not ugly or full. This Hotel was a good compromise. It was really pracitcal that we could stay in the center, because the city is not so small. The room was okay, but a little bit to loud. The wall between the rooms was open at... More

Although this is old and basic and don't expect a palace its a place in a great location, right on the corner of the lake and along side the Temple, a great price especially for Kandy A very popular place to stay so one should book. Bathrooms are shared and are "rural" and say so. Rooms are basic but clean... More

I was sharing a double room (with private bathroom), together with a girl I've met during my travel and we've paid 2000 rps per room per night. The room is in itself quite good, but you can hear everything from the rooms and corridor as the side walls don't touch the ceiling. The worst part was that we woke up... More
