We stayed 2 nights there in October 09 with my extended family of 7 people. It was a great experience, like going back to the time of MountBatten who apparently stayed threre at some stage. The rate, for a start (booked on the Internet) was excellent, about US$ 35. The place has something very "grandeur passée" about it, with huge... more

We checked in for 2 nights- myself, a friend and my 9 year old son. After 1 night we were asked to vacate our room cos someone else wanted it and had offered to pay more. The reception staff couldn't even look me in the eye, and tried to ignore me whilst I was trying to negotiate to stick to... more

I feel slightly churlish giving a 3 star rating as there is much that is good about the Hotel Suisse - excellent location overlooking the lake, dark wood everywhere, friendly staff, food generally ok, rooms quite nice - we had 2 interconnecting which was perfect for a family of 4. Also good for exploring centre of Kandy (shops and market)... more

We spent one night at Hotel Suisse few days ago and strongly determined to stay there in our next visit to Kandy too. I was little hesitated to stay there after reading the reviews but we didn't have any other option as we had to visit the temple of tooth by 5.30 AM next day. So we had to stay... more

Hotel centrally placed. The public areas are clean but old fashioned but not without charm. There is a pool but this is open to the public and so expect if female and white some comments - and we were a group of middle aged women The bedrooms are grubby , in particular pillows ( discarded and slept on rolled up... more

this was our last minute choice as we were hoping to travel straight away to nuwara eliya and not to stop in kandy but as we were too late we decided to stay, then the next problem was about the place, then our grand parents came up with hotel suisse coz they have spent there honeymoon here fifty years before.... more

What a strange night we had..... I prepaid online through a hotel booking service and sent them a number of emails requesting confirmation of reservation but received no response. We headed off to Sri Lanka and spend the first couple of nights in Colombo. I then called Hotel Suisse and eventually got someone to confirm the reservation for the next... more

We stayed in February 2008. The hotel is a beautiful old building, set right near the lake, but about a 10 minute walk from the centre of town. Our room had a great balcony overlooking the lake - and better still, overlooking a huge tree full of monkeys! The rooms do look a little bit like they haven't changed in... more

The hotel Suisse is a breath of fresh air from usual tourist hotels. That is to say. it is a breath of old fashioned dusty charm and a taste of a bygone age. If you want to be based in Kandy itself, it is far better than most of the hotels featured by tours and agencies which are outside of... more

Old world charm and manners from the staff. True some of the furnishings are dated but this is in keeping with the overall feel of the hotel and everywhere was spotlessly clean. Great size rooms but be careful not to accept a room near the bar as this can be noisy. Food was very good and varied. Location is quiet... more
