I felt like I stepped back 100 years in history when going into The Mansion. The furniture and mansion itself were beautiful. It was like going to Colonial day Sri Lanka. The staff was very welcoming. I stayed for one night. The room was very nice and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. My only disappointment was dinner the... More

This hotel is in the most beautiful location outside Kandy. The hotel itself is a grand 'colonial' style building with the most amazing furniture. Service is excellent and food very good. Though it has no extra 'facilities', it is the location and the grandness of the building that make this hotel worth a visit. It is however, a little way... More

Stayed 3 nights at this hotel and used as a base for exploring Kandy. Out of the way of central Kandy but not a problem if you have a driver like we did. They even provide driver accommodation and food as well so no need to worry where your driver is going to stay as we got on really well... More

The Mansion is probably the most unique, special place I've ever stayed. Full of history and Character, and the place Ghandi stayed when he was in Sri Lanka which made it even extra special! The grounds are lovely and the rooms and entire place make you feel like you've gone back a century in time. The staff were fantastic and... More

We only had one night at the Mansion and although it was a little drive from the centre of Kandy it was well worth the visit. A peaceful setting steeped in history and with excellent service from all of the staff. Large rooms, even larger and higher 4 poster beds and a rustic colonial feel made the stay something to... We had our homecoming ceremony there on 2011. This is a place which reminds us the proud & prestige of Sri Lanka. You will be amazed, if you see the architecture of this colonial house. Large entrance wooden door with so many symbols and beautiful ceiling. Very good for wedding photo shoot also. It is a quite n calm place.... More

We had reservations when driving to the location as it was night, with heavy rain and it took us more than 30 mins to reach it after the cultural show in town because of horrendous traffic. To top it off, our driver was not sure of the location as we had chosen it and it wasn't on the agent's usual... More

This is a very special place. The building is amazing and the service really nice. The rooms are clean and nice but don't expect complete new , boutique style rooms. We loved it here because the building has a special charm. It is a bit far away from Kandy, but you can order a tuk tuk if you want to... More

The building is an old Hindu weekend home. Very amazing architecture and interior with a lot of charm. We only staid one night, the room was simple and the bathroom would have needed some renovation - still acceptable. The staff was nice and helpful and the dinner was good. Breakfast was simple and would need some improvements. In general the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mansion was built in the 1920s by Punchi Banda Nugawela, Diyawadana Nilame, of the "Temple of The Tooth' in Kandy. He was a chieftain in Kandy who was believed to have lived a lavish lifestyle during the early 20th century. The designer of this architectural masterpiece is fully European and the architect still remains a mystery. In 1999 Mr. Rathnapala Marawanagoda, the last resident, decided to convert the villa into a hotel. ... more   less
