Recently at the Royal Palms Hotel in Kalutara, Sri Lanka, staff in the bar were doubling the quantity of drinks recorded on the bar bill of All Inclusive guests. Since the total price showed zero, guests were just signing the bill without paying attention to the actual number of drinks consumed. Staff subsequently sold these drinks to paying guests at... more

Have been to Sri Lanka 5 times but not stayed at this hotel before. I would rate this as a good four star. We had a lovely room, people at reception were first class. service in the main restaurant a bit up and down. The food was good 95% of the time. Animation team good, gym brill, great swimming pool.... more

First I would like to say that the people in Sri Lanka are warm and welcoming and very friendly and the country is beatuiful - so please don't be put off going to Sri Lanka as it is stunning. The locals are friendly and kind, their trips are cheaper than the hotels and the same, it's fun to leave the... more

You will be told not to use the local drivers they are always waiting at the entrance to the hotel. I say use them they know the areas well and are very cheap to use. This was our sixth visit to the RPBH we have stayed at many hotels across the world but but recommend this hotel to everyone. The... more

this was our second visit to the hotel, never done a return visit on any holiday before. Such a warm welcome awaits for you on arrival with a refreshing drink which is well needed after a long journey. The reception area is stunning. The rooms are very spacious and clean, nothing is too much trouble for the rooms boys. Kitchen... more

This was our first trip to Sri Lanka. Our trip was arranged by mercury Direct and went without a hitch. We flew with Kingfisher airlines and this must rate as the best quality flight that I have used, even though I looked enviously at first class it was obviously an experience probably never to be forgotten. We enjoyed being looked... more

While the star classifications for hotels provide a good benchmark for comparison, I venture to suggest that there are regional differences, and the Royal Palms is a case in point. In Thailand and Dubai for instance, one can easily add an additional star onto a hotel’s rating whereas in many places (including the United Kingdom) it is often prudent to... more

Hotel - excellent service with all the staff really friendly. This goes throughout the Hotel. The staff also got on really well together and looked to be working as a team. The food was excellent with a very varied menu, with curries, fish, meat and even Engish beef, pork, lamb etc for those not adventurous to try something new. The... more

Organised by Mercury our flight with Kingfisher was via Bangalore but as comfortable as it gets outside of upgrades and we were pleased with just about everything but its a long journey. On arrival the presence and number of sandbag gun posts dotted along the route from the airport to our hotel in Colombo surprised us and we were pulled... more
