We spent the first 2 nights of our holiday here and the location is amazing. The hotel is very isolated down a very bumpy road for several kms but the result is you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere with the 'tank' in front of you and the forest around. Fortunately we had a driver for most of... More

I loved every minute of our stay here, the staff are so pleasant and helpful, they can not do enough for you and are always so polite. I agree with other people that you need to hire a driver if you want to go site seeing, we contacted a wonderful Sri Lankan that we found on the internet who for... More

I agree with a previous reviewer (Seanoz) regarding the location. Yes, it is very scenic and it gives the impression that this is a favoured wildlife spot. In reality it seems to be on the edge of the wildlife corridor so the chances of seeing any big game such as elephant is somewhat limited. However, you will see plenty of... More

Geoffrey Bawa designed a 6 story hotel that engages with the drama of the landscape, (visitors come to specially see and stay in this hotel), from its large ramped entry road that rises out of the Sri Lankan bush, giving a glimpse of the tank and volcanic plug, (Sigiriya – which is a world heritage site), in the distance before... This hotel has a dress code, but shorts are OK for the evening meal. We had a large room with a Jacuzzi which was very good. The view to the lake in the distance (dry season) and Sigiryia was great. The staff seemed to occupy their time looking for ways of getting more tips which usually started 5-10 minutes after... More

This hotel has amazing architecture, incredible views, wonderful rooms, attentive and friendly staff, great facilities and a unique experience. But something nagging in the back of my mind means I wont stay here again. Let me explain. Everything the other reviews say about Kandalama is true. It really is different and was a memorable part of our holiday. From the... More

This hotel exceeded all expectations!! Apart from the fantastic location, the wildlife (especially the monkeys!), the great room, views, pools, food! (oh the food!! amazing and different every night!) - the whole place is an eco hotel! The service was amazing - at one point the naughty monkeys knocked over my mocktail whilst stealing the pineapple garnish and the staff... More

We stayed here for the initial portion of our honeymoon. After a long and terrifying drive from the airport (if you haven't been to Sri Lanka the driving style of most people will I suspect leave you speechless) we arrived at the Kandalama. The room we had been given in the Sigiriya wing had an amazing view, and my wife... More
