I am staying here right now for two days for relaxed weekend and I couldn't have come to a better place, great architecture and some wonderful furniture from the old days! The staff are very helpful and charming. The location is great and most of the cultural places and easily accessible. The rooms are clean and AC is great in... More

An old colonial mansion, built by the British, recently renovated, and renamed Sanctuary. Huge well kept garden with mighty trees and of course the monkeys. Quiet surroundings - the road being far off. You could walk to some of the major Buddhist pilgrimage sights and this is the only place I could think of to stay at Anuradhapura.

we checked in recently, not because we wanted to stay, but it was on our way and we thought we wanted to know why everybody was so negative on the guesthouse. what a nice surprise: a very warm welcome, state of the art rooms, restaurant very good (best deal: rice & curry!!) and the park is now being taken very... Tissawewa is a destination in itself, a spare, beautifully designed sanctuary in an old colonial building amidst park and temples. The esthetic perfectly matches it surroundings. The staff is kind. The food in the peaceful dining room, especially Sri Lankan breakfast of string hoppers and pittu with coconut milk gravy and curries, delightful. One night, Sri Lankan curry; another night... More

Stayed with my family and friends for two nights. Good large rooms with nice bathrooms. The fittings are new and working. The new manager a pleasant person who took time to talk with guests. No alcohol as it is within the religious zone. Excellent staff friendly. Booked rooms 6 and 7. Sleep quality is poor as you can hear people... More

Tissawewa has always been an exceptional property - the building, the grounds, the location. For years though its been neglected and a little rough around the edges so I was pleasantly surprised to find it thoroughly and thoughtfully restored on my last visit. The ancient mahogany floors and fittings have been burnished, the bathrooms are virtually 5 star and the... More

We have spent one day in The sanctuary at Tissawewa and regreted not stay longer. the garden is quiet and marvelous. The rooms are totally nicely renoveted, perfectly clean, with good air condionning. The people here are really charming and we were in the middle of the temples and sanctuaries.

This was our first visit after the renovation and was looking forward to a comfortable stay , since we have been there before the renovations & it was horrible - particularly the inefficient staff & horrible food. We were informed by Quickshaws that the place was renovated & was a 'boutique' level hotel now! The staff efficiency seem to have... More

Thank you for your constructive crticism. We will certainly take on board the shortcomings you've taken the trouble to share with us. Please do keep in mind the property has gone through a major refurbishment, after many years, and we are still in soft-opening mode. Where such teething problems are in the process of being resolved- in the shortest possible... More
