It's a (very) quiet hotel set in 11 acres of gardens and, following a recent refurbishment, the rooms were in very good shape and the decor excellent. Our room was large and well set out, as was the en suite bathroom, and the toiletries on offer were good quality. The sizeable bed and high ceilings were also a major plus... More

we went for a lunch after visiting the temples. A well entertained big parc with monkeys, a 2-floor building with a veranda - we were invited to drink tea waiting for the lunch; we were shown the room where her Majesty the Queen of England stayed in 1954 (?), in fact the managers said it was in 1951 (but they... We stayed for two nights at the Sanctuary - Tissawewa Resthouse whilst visiting the ruins at Anuradhapura. This styles itself as a high-class hotel in Anuradhapura. First the good things: - Recently been refurbished to a high standard - Boutique hotel - Own grounds - Excellent food - Tranquil setting - Friendly staff - Comfortable beds and pillows - Exquisite... When we searched for a hotel in this area, we found this hotel to be located in an excellent place compared to all the other hotels in the city. The added benefit of this fact is that we were able to walk to most of the significant historical sites without using any other transportation. The hotel has gone through major... More

This Hotel has been recently refurbished or perhaps.. restored. The rooms and the building retain the same architecture bur restoration and up-liftment has taken place. The gardens are just as expansive as they were and the quietness is the hall mark. The meals are excellent with a very innovative chef in the presentation of the dishes... and the dishes do... More

This was my first time here and it definitely won't be my last. The question that constantly cropped up in my mind was "Can there be anywhere as peaceful as this?" So quiet, yet within walking distance to most of the ancient ruins in the sacred city of Anuradhapura! The service is great and the staff really make you feel... More

A beautiful old colonial lodge with modern bathrooms, HUGE grounds with tons of birds, monkeys etc. we went in monsoon off season and were the only guests. The staff, cooks everyone was super friendly, efficient, made wonderful local dishes. I recommend it highly. (only problem is you can't leave anything on the verandah because of the monkeys, which albeit non... More

What a wonderful old colonial style hotel, with big nice rooms, great modern bathrooms, very clean, very friendly staff, excellent food (we stayed two nights and had both evenings the Sri Lankan Curries with 8 different dishes!), beautiful huge garden with peacocks and a lot of monkeys to keep our litle boy busy, and a lovely terrace to sit and... Soo sad that the renovation has completely ignored the historical character of this lovely colonial building. The homely white lacquered cane chairs, the glass goluwa lamps, the two blade ceiling fan that welcomed, generations of visitors at the upper veranda are not to be seen but boldly painted glittering furniture that has no place in this colonial structure. in an... We travelled by train from Colombo so this was our first real taste of the country. The hotel has a great colonial feel to it. While the front of house service was quite awkward, this was more than made up for by our charming waiter, Gunarathna who has worked there for 14 years. The food was good, the free bicycles... More
