Cannot in good conscience give Varayoc more than 4 stars, but this hostel is great for what it is: a rare budget option in Aguas Calientes. The service was very nice - we were met at the train by a very sweet woman who took us to Varayoc (a very short walk from the train station) who was helpful throughout... More

The Hostal Varayoc is a great place to stay in Aguas Calientes. the owners are attentive and waited for us in the train station. The hostel are simple but very comfortable. Also, the staff ask you the departure hour to Machu Picchu to prepare your breakfast. In our case, we took the excellent breakfast at 4:30am!!! I definitely recommend this... More

My only real complaint is the front desk staff. They often lock the front door and leave. Sometimes you get locked in, sometimes you get locked out. Everything else was a good value for the money. I would recommend this place. Breakfast starts as early as you need it.

I'm not sure if this hostel even exists. I was met at the train station by a woman with a sign with my name. I followed her back to the hostel, which was above a restaurant, where she spoke to me in Spanish. I had already been in Peru for 11 days at this point and my Spanish isn't great,... More

Pros: Staff will meet you at train station, quiet rooms are small but comfortable, hot showers, very close to the Machu Picchu buses, you can schedule an early breakfast (which is good) if you're making an early trip up to Machu Picchu, you can leave your bags at reception, strong wifi with separate connection on each floor Cons: A bit... Not sure where Kevin was coming from. There is nothing across the street from the place I stayed except the river. In any event the place was clean, showers had hot water, beds were comfortable with lots of blankets for the cool nights. Rooms a bit small and breakfast a couple of rolls, juice and coffee. Buses start early(5AM) so... More

One of the few budget options in Aguas Calientes, this is the main reason for 4 stars. It is just an average hostel but I am not sure more expensive option would be much better. The location is OK, just by the railway but no trains at night so I slept pretty well. Don't eat at the restaurants opposite the... More

Hostal Varayoc was a good budget option in a generally overpriced town. We got room 305, which was an interior room with two twins and a private bathroom. Towels and soap are provided, but no shampoo (no worries - single use shampoos are sold in some of the stores for less than 1 sole). We used the free computer terminal... More

For a hostel this place wins - I love it when the sheets are super soft and not starchy, and also they do a lovely breakfast with real fresh coffee, freshly squeezed papaya juice, and brioche. And smiley faces at 4am! Thanks so much.

If you are looking for a cheap place for a quick overnight stop over in Aguas Calientes before visiting Machu Picchu, that's a good choice. This hostal is really simple, but it has clean rooms, spacious and with private bathroom. The price is really convenient, worth it for sure. There's a basic breakfast included: hot drinks, juice, bread and jam.... More
