Villa Paraiso is certainly not perfect, but is probably the best place to stay in the Playa Santo Domingo section of Ometepe, a very poor island, with limited lodging options. Our cabin - number 25 - was comfortable and relatively clean; request it specifically. Santo Domingo is a bare bones beach area - no retail district, nowhere to walk to... more

This was a lovely place to stay, but there aren't many alternatives, especially when you book from the states and you are not sure of what you may find. The food was terrible, (egg salad sandwich came as scrambled eggs on bread), and you are actually a little captive, it's not like there are other places to eat. But swimming... more

I have read the many reviews of the Villa Paraiso. Having traveled widely in Latin America - both the first and third worlds here are my reactions. Location - spectacular. You walk down to the beach (its warm water and windy in march) and see volcanoes as borders, horsemen smiling going by, the occasional running tame dog. Pretty nice. My... more

We stayed at Villa Paraiso in Feb 2007 as part of REI Adventures ,Active Nicaragua Tour. This is an excellent tour that I can highly recommend. The tour guide , Gerald, was excellent. We found the food to be excellent. It's not gourmet but we had fresh fish and other entrees well prepared. There is a pleasant area outside to... more

Spent ten days in Nicaragua (Ometepe, Granada, Managua and Corn Islands) and this was our least favourite place - mainly because the people (owner and reception staff) weren't very friendly - unlike the rest of the the Nicaraguans we met who made us feel very welcome. When they have more competition on the island they will have to do better.... more

Title: My Little Hell Hole!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS I was scheduled to stay here for two nights and three days in mid July 2007. I stayed one night and was in horror. I have traveled to Latin America for over 30 years. I have stayed at some dives. This place was the absolute worse. The food was bad--really bad.... more

Great drivers, Jose Maria, Douglas, and Fenor were very nice and personable. More like tour guides. Only Douglass spoke English. Waiters in the restaurant made us feel like were were inconveniencing them, but the food is very good. Rooms are acceptable, desk staff were nice if we were nice to them. Some travelers did not speak Spanish and expected the... more

Firstly, I didn't even see the witch woman everyone talks of...Secondly, I was so pleased with this resort in every way possible. Upon arrival off the ferry, there was a van waiting for us, being March the roads were not bad at all. Check in was quite easy...they assigned us room #9 which was a lovely cabana' with 2 single... more

My sister and I stayed 3 days in a cabin overlooking the beach, with a large veranda with hammocks. Lovely setting, lots of greenery and well lit. Lots of hot water. There is spacious tiered decking off the back of the hotel overlooking the lake, which I kept thinking was the ocean with the waves washing up. You can eat... more

I've stayed at this hotel three times. The reason I have returned is because it has a nice location and some of the rooms offer modern conveniences like A/C and televsion (local television, few channels, all spanish). The restaurant and bar are very convenient, but the food is only ok. I'm giving this hotel a low rating this time because... more
