The Dar el-Janoub is a refined hostelry, in an excellent location, providing an authentic desert experience in complete comfort, with an incredibly hospitable staff. Upon arrival, after a long, sandy drive, my husband and I were warmly welcomed by Omar, one of our charming hosts. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch beautifully prepared and presented by Ahmed, accompanied by a... More

We are regular Morokko travelers and this time we decided to rent a car and travel to Merzouga via Skourra and back to Marakech. It's a recommended journey, but avoid the hot months (even June is really hot in the south) where you travel from Marakesh, via the high Atlas, crossing the narrow roads and small remote villages to a... My friends and I stayed at the hospitable Dar el Janoub on a recent trip to Merzouga. Born out of an Italian architect's vision, Dar al Janoub provides just enough comfort without compromising on the uniqueness of the desert. We were greeted by the incredibly friendly team who always made sure we were comfortable. Our room was comfortable and clean... More

Magnificent views of the desert sand from a nice terrace. Very friendly and helpful staff. In case of strong winds, which occurs frequently, we could not always stay and eat/drink on the terrace because of the sand in the air. Reception organized a very interesting half-day excursion in the nearby desert with visits to a nomad family, a school, a... More

After a relatively easy drive from Ouarzazate (~4 hours taking our time) - the arrival to dar el Janoub is both enchanting and spectacular as it sits directly on the edge of the famous Erg Chebb dune - the start of the Sahara desert. Upon arrival we were pleasantly greeted and welcomed by the reception staff with traditional Moroccan treats... More

This beautiful property on the brink of the Sahara is the perfect place to watch the sun rise over the red dunes. You can sit on the terrrace with a Moroccan breakfast and endless coffee, and then walk right out past a few palms and hardscrabble into the soft sand. The hotel arranges camel rides--highly recommend at sunset. Though I... More

We stayed here for two nights, standard room. Accomodation is very basic, small room, small bathroom, air conditioning off when arrived, so the foom was a furnace at arrival. It appears to be a big hotel, many rooms, but fortunately during our stay it was not overcrowded given the period. Swimming pool is good, and the overall riad is nice... More

The location is perfect and the hotel magnificent. The dinning place has a great view of the dessert and the pool is terrific. The rooms are clean, comfortable and cosy. If we have to pinpoint something, I would certainly like to show gratitude to the staff that helped us beyond their duty.

We just got back from our visit to Morocco. We did a camel trek into the dunes, and stayed at this hotel the night before our trek. It is a great place. Driving from Marrakesh to Merzouga in one day took a good 10 hours, but the landscapes you see along the way will keep you going until you reach your point of destination. From then, Dar El Janoub was just what we wanted: a break from the mad rush, noise, etc. The guys there (Rachid, Moha and Ahmed) were extremely friendly... More
