Gem Island is a very small island near Kapas island with beautiful underwater world - not too far from the mainland. Pros: Very well trained staff, excellent restaurant in the hotel. Sometimes felt even too professional for an island :) Great snorkeling right front of the hotel, and further as well (Kapas island, kayaking distance). Rooms are very clean, well... More

I went there on the honeymoon package (RM1.5K) with my wife right after we got married in 2009. The package at that time included welcome drinks, one spa session, one guided snorkelling session and a candlelight dinner over the period of 3 days and 2 nights - I must say we weren't disappointed at all. The water was crystal clear,... More

Stayed with a family, there were 8 of us. Fun time with kayaking, turtle watching and island discovery walking near the interesting and lovely rocky parts of the beach. Felt like you are in a private island. Food and service were satisfactory.

We we're pretty disappointed to find the spa was closed for refurbishment, not a great start. The rooms are very nice, right on the water with balconies, decent aircon and nets. The food is average. If you're after reliable and safe choices. But it's not one for the foodies, especially in such a food obsessed country. The beaches are superb,... More

It was our fourth trip to Gem Island in the last 5 years, and it is one of our favourite places in Malaysia. While it is a bit difficult to approach (either 5+ hours driving from Kuala Lumpur or a flight+long taxi ride combination), the island compensate for the travel inconveniences; especially if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing,... We were sorely disappointed by the Gem "Resort" at Gemia, after a great stay at Bubu resort in Perenthian Island - we were expecting a simple but stylish place, reasonably priced food and the usual array of available activities (snorkeling, kayaking, etc.). None of this happened! Sure, the beauty of the Gemia island itself can make up for it and... More

I spent a relaxing vacation with my hubby. The resort is cosy. The staff are friendly and helpful . Knowing that we are Chinese , the chef were so considerate that preparing us Chinese food. The beach is nice with lots of fishes, but jellyfishes too! Maintenance is a must for the hotel. Spa should be reopened. The room is... More

We had a nice family vacation over a holiday weekend. Yes, the resort has seen better days maintenance-wise, which is a shame. The room was clean and the housekeepers were friendly and helpful, but they seemed to be way overworked! The restaurant was efficiently run, even at full capacity, and we all really enjoyed the food during our stay. If... More

This is the location is what you always dreamt of. Small island with a good beach. All rooms have sea view. Alcohol is served in this paradise. The food is really great (lonely planet tells the opposite, but they could not be more wrong!!). Around the island you can snorkel and see the beautiful reef. Great place to stay a... More

A modest resort on a private island gives you a real privacy. Being more of a city traveler, find it pretty quiet. Unless you are in solitude or just want to laze around or solely into water recreation like kayak, boating, and snorkeling, then you wouldn't be very impressed with this place. The staffs were very friendly and accommodating. The... More
