Neither hotel nor town warrant more than a stopover. However if you have to stay in this town this hotel seems like a reasonable option. (We flew into Sandakan and then were picked up for a few days at the Kinabatangan followed by Danum Valley and Sipadan – amazing experience) Have to say our room was large, clean and modern.... more

I was there one night before my Kinanbatangan tour. Located in the city centre, is good to see the few things Sandakan have to offer, to choice between some restaurant, meet people, have a walk. We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour around Borneo. The hotle was well positioned to explore Sandakan. There are quite a few places of interest, including the Sandakan Memorial. We flew to Sandakan and arrived in the atfernoon, the plan being to go into the jungle the next morning. Sandakan itself is grimy, intimidating (especially for a young teenage daughter), smelly and uneventful. We retreated to the hotel for some food. Boring menu with little actually available.
