As part of our trip through Madagascar we stayed at the Lakana hotel and it was splendid. The staff was very friendly and service minded. While we stayed here, we had our first anniversary and I arranged a surprise for my wife, with the staff helping me to get everything planned. Locationwise you have a few restaurants, bike rentals and... More

Nestled along the beach and next to a roadway, the bungalows were nicely appointed, have views of the beach, some were over the water (with no open bottoms ala Bora Bora), and the staff were friendly, very helpful, and spoke good English, although French is better. The rooms were very clean. We loved it here and went for long walks... More

My tour company (Cactus Tours......amazing tour company) set me up here on gorgeous Ile. Ste. Marie, at the end of my month in Madagascar, and I stayed the first night in a garden bungalow, which was not bad, but the next 2 nights, I stayed in a bungalow on the sea...WOW....I mean, it wasn't the Ritz, but, sleeping to the... I have been to this hotel two years ago (2009) and have noticed that the standards have dropped this time round. The bungalow is of acceptable size however there is a lack of lighting which makes it very dim and difficult to find things. The shower in bungalow 18 lacked pressure and you have to keep pressing the shower button... More

Lakana is a lovely little collection of bungalows set in beautiful gardens. Sleeping arrangements are basic, and the decor in rooms a bit old, but very clean and fairly peaceful (though as with all the hotels on this side of the island, the road is only 50 metres away). The staff are wonderful and genuinely friendly, with a very helpful... More

I have given this hotel 3 stars due to the comfort level of the rooms. However if the rooms were better and modernised slightly I would happily give 5 stars based on experience and location. The hotel has really friendly staff especially the bar/kitchen staff they were great. It has a lovely atmosphere and is situated amongst trees and bushes... More

The hotel is situated on the west coast of St Marie around 5 minutes drive from the small airfield and 15 minutes south of the only town, which is really a large village. We stayed for 3 nights in a bungalow over the water. The bungalows are not actually stilt bungalows as they are set on concrete reached by a... More

We were traveling Madagascar for about one month, wisited many "upper" mid-rangge hotels and Lakana was one of the best choices. Staff of this cosy hotel, which has amazing garden and beach was friendly, especially young manager asistant, who speaks fluent english did a great job. The food was excelent and bungalows as well as the garden and beach were... More

We spent 6 nights at Lakana and enjoyed our stay but prefered Ile Aux Nattes and can highly recommend Hotel La Petite Traversee. We would definitely go back to Ile Aux Nattes. We totally relaxed here and loved the island. The food at Lakana was hit and miss - it was either really good or very average. We hardly saw... More

My daughter stayed for five days at Hotel Lakana in February 2006. The hotel gave us free transfers to the small airport, and on arrival at Lakana a lovely fruit punch was given as we checked in. We opted for one of the gorgeous thatched bungalows in the sea, there was also a slightly more expensive choice of beachside bungalows.... More
