People have to understand that The Ark is an extremely unique place. People have to understand that it is in the middle of the Aberdare rain forest and it is in the middle of nowhere really. The Ark doesn't proclaim itself to be a 5 star accommodation. It is more about the experience and the history of The Ark and... more

As part of our holiday in Kenya, we were booked into The Ark. Apart from the beautiful sight the hotel looks when being approached, there is also somehow very warm feeling we got when we entered this place. The Fireplace makes you feel at home, and you can even pose with the rhino head that stands over the fireplace! The... more

We liked the funky, rustic ambiance. . .it reminded me of summers in the mountains. . .and the facilities for viewing wildlife were excellent. alas! it was pouring and no animals appeared at the watering hole except for one bedraggled elephant and a few warthogs. we were traveling in the dry season when it wasn't supposed to rain - so... more

Was a while since we went but I felt that I had to say my piece. If you go on safari then you (hopefully!) are amazed and bewildered by the animal kingdom. It disheartens me to hear people moan about the facilities etc. The whole point of going there IS to be woken up at 2 in the morning because... more

The Ark is just as it sounds, built in the shape of an Ark, Noah would have been proud . The animals arrived ten by ten. What a fabalous place. Stayed at the Ark as part of A long Safari, and its so worth a Visit, very different from most Lodges, Basic sleeping accomodation, but if your interested in seeing the... more

This was a very exciting night, but unfortunately we didn't get to see much activity. There were large herds of elephants at the salt lick and an occasional hyena would peep up at the herd to look out for potential prey. There were as many as 13 elephants at one time wandering about the salt lick and it was certainly... more

This year my family and I, a party of three, stayed at the Ark for two nights, at a wopping $1139! Which is the approximate price for some top hotels in europe and seriously luxurious safari lodges in Africa. Having expected a certain degree of luxury and comfort, we walk into the only door, the back door, and wondered aimlessly... more

The 2 hour journey from the Sweetwaters Tented camp (which was great) to the Ark gave me ample time to read up on what others had written on the place and I was left feeling a little worried and as a result gave our driver a good grilling - had we booked into the local flea pit? Thankfully not. We... more

My party of three stayed at the Ark for one night last week as part of a safari tour of Kenya and Tanzania. While the animal watching was good (mostly dominated by elephants while we were there), the accommodation was disgusting. This is not only the worst hotel we stayed at during our 14 days in Africa, but probably the... more

We stayed at The Ark for 1 night earlier this month as part of a safari in Kenya. Whilst the food was good, the accommodation was in need of major refurbishment. The rooms were clean but small (we expected that, but they were very cramped) with only enough room for 2 single beds butted up against the walls. They were... more
