The best part of the hotel is the location. Rooms are a bit older, as are the linens. Incense in the hallways also provided a distinct smell. Beautiful fireplace though in the common room great for winter.

Uruguayan friends told us we should stop in Piriapolis for a local beach experience. We chose the Colon because it was at the end of the beach where it was more quiet. The historic hotel was fun to stay in... a little funky, but it was unique staying in the round tower room with a view of the beach. (You... More

This historic hotel has been in the family for many years. Ricardo, his wife and children will share their recommendations for fishing, boating, horseback riding, and other activities. The beach is wonderful and not too hot like Rio. If you are enjoying the city and countryside, you will love the location. If you are chilling on the beach, you will... More

It's hard to describe the place. When you enter and look at the reception and the floors, you think, well, nice, a house with history: nice decoration, lovely tiles etc. But once you see the rooms, it's bleak horror: so small you can't turn around. Smelly. Completely loveless. And the bathroom - - well, words fail me. Honestly, do yourself... More

this beautiful swiss style circa 1910 hotel is situated in a strategic part of town. price for our room, breakfast included, was $80 for my wife and i. nice room facing the ocean (rio plata). the staff was not friendly, seemed annoyed that they had guests (it was winter, july), rooms were very noisy with the nearly constant sound of... Helpful staff, good breakfast (not outstanding but good), and a fantastic octagon room on the top floor in a historic building overlooking the south Atlantic. Check out the photo.

I ended up staying 2 days in Piriapolis. Lovely town and the Hotel Colon is centrally located. The staff was extremely friendly. Had a family feel. I speak Spanish so not sure what the English level is.

well, you can not beat the location, the hotel is grand! i find the management fixed but a bit flexible when needed. of course, we are talking about a 100 year old 'palace' in it's day........ for people expecting the ritz carlton, don't do it. however, if you like 'quirky' hotels and can put up with a wee bit of... I had paid by Western Union,a deposit equal to one night's stay and it was too late to try alternative accommodation, otherwise I would have not have stayed another moment! A dreadful smell, A shower with inches of black mould around the base. One electric socket which linked all wires! I needed to charge my laptop and cameras. Also there was... More
