We did our open water suba course at this resort during our Honeymoon. The service is excellent and the staff is very friendly. The dive instructor Robert concentrates on individuals and keeps even the most nervous diver calm. Great experience and great fun. Thanks Robert...

If you want to relax on the beach without the party scene then this is the place. Friendly staff who go beyond their job. Beautiful secluded beach which isn't crowded. Snorkelling in the bay is good and they do the boat trips to Shark Island and around Koh Tao too. They have kayaks and scuba on site. You can hire... More

I've been to a few places on Koh Tao and many other islands in Thailand and this is my best choice for snorkeling and family fun at a reasonable price. The rooms here are new and clean. The food is great compared to a lot of other places on the islands - fresh seafood, good Thai tastes, some international stuff,... More

We stayed here for one night on one of the hill side bungalows. The room was clean and had a very nice view. While it was the most expensive place we stayed at on the island we didn't think it was completely worth it. The snorkeling was alright but did not compare to Hin Wong, also on Koh Tao. Our... More

The resort is a 15-20 minute drive from the pier (we arrived from Koh Samui) down a very bumpy dirt road. Don't bother renting a scooter and using it to get to and from the resort as you'll probably end up either breaking your neck, or the scooter! For which you will have been asked to put down your passport... More

First off, this is more a cautionary tale to travellers. I didn't research this fully so do your research people! We came here from Samui, from an amazing hotel. So arriving to Montalay was a mission - very far away from anything, on a dodgy, long road. No scooters for hire, only in town, but I wouldn't unless you want... More

So I'll start with the good point: this place has a really good beach to go snorkelling off. Now the bad parts: firstly the maids think it's ok to come in your room at 8:30am and try and clean while your in bed. The reception staff are rude and unhelpful and they make every discussion feel like a pain to... More

The beach in front of the hotel was really nice and the swimming pool as well. If you plan to stay at this hotel, take a regular room, not a bungalow. If we would have taken a normal room I think we would have had a nice time. Our stay here was horrible. We got the tree top cottage at... More

First - you need to know what type of experience you want to have on Ko Tao when you decide to book here. If you want to relax on the beach/by the pool, have easy access to great snorkeling, get a good night's sleep, and will be content with this - Montalay is the place for you. As other reviewers... First off be warned my review here may be a bit coloured by my arrival experience which was not good at all. I will attempt to write it objectively despite this. Lets get over what upset me at the start... I was looking for an ocean view right on the beach bungalow when I booked this and at that time... More
