I booked a room in the Sea Rock Hotel for 3 days for the full moon, I booked it on week before my trip, when I arrived there on the full moon day, after waiting 20 minutes waiting alone at the reception... The woman at the reception told me that she gave my room to someone else because she dont like "Booking" (internet booking website), so I was there on the most busy day of the month with my lugages and no room, she showed me another room in another hotel but the room was a small bungalow with no aircon no wifi and no bedsheet... After 10 minutes she started to screaming at me because I was not okay with the situation, I got no apologies, no refund (she didnt want to cancel the reservation on booking either...). At the end I had to call Booking for help, they canceled my reservation and gave her a warning but I had to found another hotel on the most busy day of the year. Also the place is far from everything and on a hill, one there you have no choice but taxi (if you are lucky enough to find one), I definitly dont recommend this place.…

Pros The staff were very friendly, we arrived early and the woman who welcomed us looked after our bags while we went our for lunch. The bed was comfy and the room was quite quirky. The pool was really good and there wasn't a load of rooms so you didn't feel like it was overcrowded. You can see the sunset from your balcony or in the pool! Cons The hotel didn't have their restaurant open which was fine for us as we had bikes but it is about 2km into the centre of Thong Sala for those of you with no transport, though there are always Songtaews going by. Could use more sun lounges by the pool as the only one there is broken. Overall - really lovely place to stay but would recommend having your own bike to get around.

Extremely helpful staff (the ones with poor english will track down assistance if needed) to the point where they will find you a motorbike to rent or even drive you to the city in their own vehicles for 3 or 4 dollars. They will also do laundry and arrange other services. Breakfast was excellent (coffee, juice, 2 eggs, ham, 2 pieces of toast and fresh fruit). Comfortable beds with large pillows and an insanely good sunset view from our room (superior room) on the second floor. Beach access nearby and the beaches are quiet without the development and chaos of the Koh Samui public beaches. The Amsterdam Bar immediately next door is a bit of an uphill walk but has a must-see view right before sunset - drinks are expensive and it can get crowded though so we only went for the view. Getting around Ko Phangan is easiest on a motorcycle/scooter (although tuk-tuks are easily flagged down) and they can typically be rented for 200-300 bhat a day. Word of caution however - check your traveller's insurance for coverage in the case of an accident, particularly if you don't have a Thai or international driver's license. The roads between the main dock and the full moon party beach are not for the faint of heart.…
