We booked this stay based on decent reviews on here. However as previously mentioned, it has been bought over by a Thai family and it seems things have deteriorated. It's now called Maddy's, although the Yan sign also remains. Very confusing! We were very disappointed with the standard of this hostel. The room we were in was basically one giant... More

It is no longer called Yans for a start. It's called Maddys and you would need to be a maddy to stay here. The room we were put in smelled awful, it was so dark we had to go outside to put on make up/ do your hair! No mirrors, only 1 toilet between 20 + guests and 2 showers.... More

First of all this hostel is no longer yans. He has moved on and the sign outside says Maddys hostel, very confusing trying to find the place and frustrating as we had heard great things about yan. It is now owned by a Thai family who barely speak any English and use the communal areas as their own personal living/dining... More

I don't remember my stay at Yan's, but pictures suggest I had an amazing time. The animals are friendly. Try the potato smoothies. Should you ever find a jelly like substance on your body, remember to keep your sh**together. You'll be fine!

Hostel itself is very basic and not 100% clean but the location itself makes up for it! We came back to the hostel a few times during the full moon party to get money etc...only 5 mins to the beach! The real gem is Yan, an incredibly wise and friendly man who will go above and beyond for you!

Yan is amazing. he is probably the friendliest person you will ever meet. a little bit crazy, but it defently adds to the experience. as soon as i walked thru the door he was putting food and a cup of coffee in my hands (all free all the time). It is a great place to meet people, most of us... More

Got completely ripped off by Yan: turned up 2 days before Full Moon and he left us waiting for 2 hours, telling us the room was being prepared before then changing his story to that of him being fully booked. Even though we had booked months in advance. Ok. However, he had managed to get us a place somewhere else.... More

I met lots of great people while staying at Yan's! The man works hard to keep his paying guests happy, but be aware that he is a bit unstable. If he offers you the opportunity to work at his bar and sell liquor put your head down and run as far away as you can! He says you can "do... More

Ideal for the full moon party, Yan is a legend (and slightly crazy), he's constantly running around making sure his guests are happy and comfortable. There's always food waiting on the cooker and he'll offer to do your laundry for free. As for the dorm room, it's a bit cramped and the matresses are about as hard as the wood... More

Stayed here with 3 friends during the Full Moon Party in June 2012. It was great fun, a chilled place and Yan works really hard to make your stay enjoyable. Would definitely recommend to others and stay again should I ever be back on Koh Phangan.
