Well YES, the rooms are gloomy and Yes, the showers are bucket showers and YES, the whole building would benefit from a total refurbishment (improved soundproofing wouldn’t come amiss!) BUT: The garden is charming; Velu, the manager, is super helpful and efficient; you get an awful lot of space for your money; the views are breathtaking; the water in the... More

The owner is lovely and will make you tea whenever you ask. No restaurant on site but they can do breakfast for 100ruppees. Great views, peCeful, cotages sometimes have cold water only as warm runs out fast in the morning. Lots of bugs, basic but clean. Fav place in india so far!

I found this place in Lonely Planet and although it hadn't been my first choice I stayed there because the host, Velu agreed to wait as I was getting into town a little late. I'm so glad that fate sent me down their path. Zina Cottages is a little out of the way, overlooking part of the town so it... More

This is one of those places where the location makes everything worth it. Right in the middle of the tea fields, it's seriously stunning. I was a little worried considering the old reviews, but it looks like things definitely have changed! The room was clean enough, bathroom was good, I just wouldn't recommend spending 600 rupees for the hikking (where... More

This place is definitely worth to stay in! We were staying in Zina cottages for four nights and had a great time. Velu was incredible friedly guy and helped us for everything. Views were fantastic and it was so quiet and peaceful. New Munnar is only 2km away from the questhouse, so it was easy to walk everywhere. I totally... More

Following the advice from lonely planet, we decide to stay at zina cottage. Yes, the surroundings are spectacular, in middle of tea fields, it is quiet and the breakfast is delicious...but the room was terrible. It was smelling humidity, the walls were full of black humidity spots, the bed were unconfortables, the floor is a very old and dirty carpet.... More

Ignore some of the comments below, the place has changed! Joseph and his wife still live there and own the place but it's Velu running Zina's cottages now, and doing a great job. The place is in a beautiful silent spot, immerged in tea plantations but near old Munnar. New Munnar is 2km away but not worth anyway, just a... More

Ok, if you read the lonely planet and expect to see an old wise man waiting for you at the top of a mountain living in a perfect charming old cottage.. then you night be disappointed. First this 'old man' now lives in Chennai because he's very old and not that wise (I would rather stay in Munnar than Chennai... More

I came here after a bunch of other guests had recommended this property wholeheartedly, and they were right. While the rooms are nothing special, the price seemed right (Rs 700-900, depending on size), breakfast was simple but enjoyable, and the manager (this might actually be a different guy from the one others has complained about since he hasn't been working... The location of the cottages is just awesome.Loved It. Probably one of the best places in Munnar in terms of location. The rooms however are basic. No fan in the room and no shower in bathroom. Running hot & cold water was available though. Also rooms are not very bright but that got compensated by the excellent dining space we... More
