We feel very fortunate to have read the Lonely Planet review that gave us the incentive to contact Frank & Margaret. After a few days in Quito and just before heading to the coast, we wanted to experience the very important mountain life in the Andes. The hosts of the Ali Shungu lodge have created an oasis for travelers while... More

we stayed for three nights on the first leg of our trip and absolutely loved this place. Frank and Margarget, the owners, were incredibly welcoming and so helpful. The staff are delightful too. The setting is serene with gorgeous views and access to the surrounding area is easy. We highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a taste of the... More

We stayed at Ali Shungu in the middle of a four month tour of South America because we wanted a relaxing break from travel in a comfortable homelike atmosphere. We certainly made the right choice. The cottages are extraordinarily comfortable. They are very large and bright with vast windows looking out to the mountains and surrounding green countryside. Beautifully decorated... More

Our three generation family of eight spent three nights in 3 bungalows at the Ali Shungu Mountain Lodge during the 2014-2015 holiday season. The bungalows were clean, spacious and comfortable. Our children, ages 11 and 14 loved the relaxed pace and enjoyed making friends with the dogs, cats, horses and llamas on the property. The food was AMAZING! Frank and... More

We just got back from a 3 night stay at this beautiful lodge. It's even nicer than the pictures on their website. Everything seems brand-new, and the grounds are immaculate. Frank is a great host, and everything went smoothly. We're vegetarian/vegan, and were easily accommodated with multiple courses, and larger portions than we could finish. This was actually a six... We spent three nights after a hectic two weeks in Quito and Cuenca. Since we live in an isolated mountain cabin, it was a bit like coming home but the volcano perched out the front window of the guesthouse was spectacular. We rested, read, and visited the markets and artists recommended by Frank and Margaret. This is a wonderful way... More

My wife and I spent seven weeks exploring Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. We stayed in some very nice places along the way. None, however, came close to being as incredibly wonderful as we found Ali Shungu Mountaintop Lodge to be. We stayed three nights and wish we could have stayed three weeks ...... at least. Reflecting back on 50 years... More

Three friends stayed at Ali Shungu and had a great experience. Although isolated, the friendly owners recommended an excellent safe driver to pick us up in Quito and drop us off at the airport after our stay. The place is very luxurious! The cottage was well decorated and stocked with beverages and fresh water. The fireplace heated the cottage well.... More

My sister and I, who are writing this review together, have been struggling on how describe our experience at Ali Shungu, as it seems somewhat different from most of the other reviewers. But we feel that we must give our honest evaluation of Ali Shungu, as we rely on Tripadvisor reviews in planning our yearly trips. The "cabins" at Ali... More

My girlfriend and I spent 2 nights at the Ali Shungu Lodge in October, and my only regret is that it was for only 2 nights! The accommodations, food, and service were incredible - way beyond anything expected and all for a reasonable price. The rainy weather at the time could not even dampen the experience, and I can't wait... More
