About 3km out of town it's perfect for some peace and quiet. After arriving we had to wonder around for 10 minutes looking for a member of staff so we could check in. Eventually we found her and she didn't even know we had a reservation. After she offered us dinner at the restaurant for $7 and we were promised... More

My husband and I recently planned a weekend getaway, specifically looking for "a cabin with a fireplace." Two friends decided to come along at the last minute and planned on seeing if there was a room available there. When we arrived, it was difficult to find someone to attend to us. When we did, there were so many keys on... More

I love this hostel. I have staid there two years in a row and would stay there again if I'm ever back in Otavalo. This is the most relaxing place I have staid at in all of Ecuador. The views are amazing and the staff is very friendly and helpful. On Saturday's they offer a free ride to the mercado... More

We stayed in Rose Cottage for several days in March, and cannot speak highly enough of it. The staff were curteous and efficient (and even got up to let us in at 3am after we'd had a difficult journey from Colombia), the owners, Mike & Rosa, were incredibly helpful in showing us the local lie of the land, and the... I make it a policy to never write a negative review if I can't balance that with a positive one. With that, I want fellow travelers to be better informed when choosing a budget hostel near Otavalo. The recent reviews of others echo my husband and my experience in early June. Lonely Planet serves as a travel bible for many... More

Travellers please note! We are extremely sorry but also surprised about the state of the room given to this person on a recent visit to Rose Cottage. Clearly the room had not been properly prepared for the visit as is normally the case, and we will make sure this does not happen again. We think this is the first time... More

We stayed several nights in Rose Cottage, to chill out while travelling for several months. It was nice, and the location is lovely and quiet, with views over the mountain. The staff were friendly and the cottage was cleaned every day. There were only a few guests there, so be aware this is not always the lively busy place shown... More

Yes, you have a lovely tranquil location. And given Otavalo Town really only has a VERY touristy market to offer and a rather run down town, its a good idea to stay out of town. The surrounding area really is the only thing on offer here. BUT...YOU HAVE NO AMBIENCE OR PERSONALITY. In our entire 6 months travelling through South... More

I stayed at The Hosteria Rose Cottage for a total of 12 nights (after originally planning only a weekend stay) in March, 2014. Without exaggeration I can say that it’s one of the most wonderful places I’ve ever stayed in over 40 countries of world travel. If you go in with the right expectations (it’s NOT the Ritz-Carlton Hotel or... More

We only got to stay a night at this wonderful lodge. We rented the Rose Cottage and it is a very cute little place. The owner certainly try to make the cottage as welcoming as possible, with fresh flowers in the vase, free beer, snacks and pop in a basket. The view from the compound is simply gorgeous. Aside the... More

We felt very unwelcome here. There was no internet in the room en when we go to the empty restaurant they kicked us out and send us to a very small and cold library. The included breakfast was very poor. You have to pay extra if you want a decent breakfast. The manager was screaming the whole day and not... More
