I stayed at the Hotel Ambato for 4 days. It is an excellent hotel, with great and personal service. The cost per night is a bargain. All the rooms are spotless and spacious. The food manager Alejandro Vaca speaks English, and is as pleasant a person as you will ever meet. I recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Ambato.
Try to get a romm on the third floor / a beautiful view of mountains and the countryside. Alll of the personnel are friendly and accomodating, as are most people in Ecuador.
One note: If you are visiting Ecuador for the first time, especially women, bring a roll of toilet paper with you when you travel. The hotels are fine in this regard, but public facilities in most places frequently do not have this amenity. Be advised!!!
Other than that, Ambato is near to Banos, a place of beauty I cannot describe unless you go there yourselves. It is well worth the trip. Taxis are inexpensive / do not rent a car because Ecuadorian natives do not observe US... more
