I read about the Hostal Macaw in "A Naturalist's Guide to the Galapagos Islands by Steve Rosenberg" (http://www.amazon.com/Naturalist-Guide-Gal%C3%A1pagos-Islands-2nd-ebook/dp/B00KL67EFW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1416588547&sr=8-9&keywords=galapagos+islands), an excellent guide to planning a trip with many helpful tips. Rosenberg described the hostal as a place to see the culture of Ecuador and the owners (Fanny Paltin and Rodrigo Sangolqui) as very helpful in arranging transport to and from the... More

We recently stayed at this hostel on the recommendation of my brother. We were very pleased with the cleanliness of the facility and how helpful the owners and staff were. The location was close to the airport, mall and the Ecua-Andino hat store. The owners offer many books in the lobby about Ecuador in general as well as more specific... More

I stayed at Hostal Macaw in September of 2013 and had an extremely enjoyable stay, so I booked another stay there for two nights last week and found the same impeccable service. The owners, Fanny and Rodrigo, are super friendly and helpful and Rodrigo even went to the mall with me to help get funds from an ATM as I... More

Our group of nine stayed at the Macaw for two nights on our way to Baltra. It's less than 10 minutes from the airport and a short walk to an air-conditioned shopping mall. There are several near-by restaurants that have good food. The hotel has a gated entry with staff always on duty to answer the bell. There's a small... More

Having booked a flight to Baltra via San Salvador, which had a 7 hour layover in Guayaquil, my 20-something daughter and I had to choose whether to stay at the airport or head into town. Given that our arrival at Guayquil was shortly after midnight (and our flight out would be at 8:30 a.m. that same morning), we needed to... More

Very nice accomodations in a quiet location, area feels safer than another area where we spent several nights. Hotel is, literally, 5 minutes from the airport, so great for overnighting before those early morning departures. Decorations are a touch spare...but that's a nit. We departed at 4:30 am and the hotel saw us off with sack breakfasts to munch on... More

Our flight was very late getting into Guayaquil, but there was still someone waiting at the front desk to let us into our room. Breakfast was wonderful, lots of fresh, homemade food. The taxi driver they arranged to take us to the airport stayed with us and walked us through everything we needed for our flight to Galapagos and probably... More

We only got to spend one night, but this is a wonderful place. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable rooms. Nice folks, would recommend it highly. They even prepared us a very nice bagged breakfast/lunch for a very early morning departure.

Stayed there for 2 nights when I was on my way to Galapagos islands. It is called Hostal, but it is run by a friendly family, very cosy hostal, and most importantly, it is in a quiet and safe location. It is closed to one of the main shopping malls too. The room is nice size with air conditioning! I... More

Great place to stay for quick hop to the islands. Picked up from airport, in the morning served lovely breakfast by the very charming Wilson, then collected by taxi who guided us through the slightly complex process of check in, tagging & inspection at airport for the islands. This was all organised by hotel. Hotel was clean and friendly. Highly... More
