My boyfriend and I stayed in The Bruce Chalet for five days. We had actually planned to go to Tiger Leaping Gorge but the weather wasn't good enough. The hotel is situated outside of Shuhe Old Town. You have to walk about 5 to 10 minutes to get there. If you want to go to Lijiang (but Shuhe is nicer!!!)... More

Very nice accommodations and an excellent value. Beware that taxi drivers may not know where to find it (we were dropped off several blocks away and, after a call, Julie came out and walked us back to Bruce Chalet!). Our room was well appointed and the grounds are so relaxing! The short (3 minute) walk to Shuhe Old Town was... More

I and my wife stayed here for two nights in the early of April during our trips from Lijiang-Shangri-la and Kunming. It started with an impressive moment of the warmth welcome by Linda and her staffs as well as two lovely dogs. We had a very great memorable and wonderful life during our stayed at the Bruce Chalet. The private... More

I stayed here for a night, and everything was perfect. It is outside of LiJiang Old Town, in Shuhe Old Town. An easy walk into town. THe service is best of the best. Rooms are big and clean. Big breakfast. THey even recommended a private guide who helped me customize a tour into Shangri-La, TIgers Leaping Gorge, and hiking around... More

We stayed end of February 2015 @ the Bruce Chalet and I confirm the exceptional friendliness of Linda and her team. All is good from this point of view. If you chose this place in the colder months you most cope with chilly nights and mornings, heating is not sufficient. i think in warmer months, starting from April onwards, it... More

We booked the Mountain View room that has an attached balcony. The room was on the second floor and there were several female staff who insisted on carrying the luggage up for us. I was impressed right from the beginning. The owner Bruce and his wife Bella were always available to take to the guests and giving them tourist information.... More

We had an awesome (11 nights) stay at TBC! I am not talking about the room or facilities, it's the folks (Linda, Juli, Xiao Chen, Xiao Li & Linda's dad) who make TBC a wonderful place to stay! Linda took over the inn from Bruce (the original owner who is now back in Hong Kong as his wife will be... More

Staying at the Bruce Chalet is a bit the same than being the host of a local family : you'll enjoy numerous conversations, tea breaks or lunches with the manager, his friends or relatives (as long as you can speak a little bit of chinese). It helps to better understand the yunnanese way of life, which is very different from... More

First the good stuff: - people are friendly and helpful - place is clean and environment is good - free drinking water - tea and fruits given, very hospitable people Bad stuff: - this place is NOT near Shuhe old city as advertised, it is a good 10-15 minutes walk to the EDGE of the Shuhe old city. On the... More

Small hotel within walking distance to Shuhe ancient town. Garden well landscaped with a pond, 2 friendly dogs and a fierce goose. Staff helpful and friendly. Linda speaks good English and no Bruce in sight. We had a family room for the 3 of us on the ground floor. Cookies and fruit plus ginger tea was served upon our arrival.... More
