I stayed at 5 elements and stayed 2 extra days in Dali. Staying outside of the city wall is better than staying inside the walls where it is ALWAYS crowded. I really liked Dali but the staff at 5 elements made the internet VERY easy to use. As a someone who uses things like FB it was great to be... More

Pros: -A nice place that is removed from the torrent of tourists in the old town. -The staff had great English skills -Room was clean, spacious and well decorated. Cons: -The staff accused us of having fake money! It was the most ridiculous, infuriating and insulting thing I have ever tried in my life. A 100 RMB bank note that... More

A long overdue review. One month in China, this is one of my two favourite hostel. The staffs are warm, the environment is cosy and the dogs... oh man I still think of those two lovely golden retrievers after my trip. So please whoever is reading this, do yourself a favour and stay at 5 Elements Hostel.

We lengthened our three nights stay with one extra night because of the relaxing and fun athmosphere. There is a nice back garden, cosy bar with pool table, books and ofcourse the two lovely dogs. Prices are good, breakfast is very good and the staff is extraordinary helpful. Location also nice, in quiet area just 5 min. walk from dali... More

We stayed in Dali four nights, all of which were at Five Elements. We were welcomed by English speaking staff and two friendly golden retriever. The common space is open and airy with plenty of comfortable seating, a pool table, bongo, guitar, and two desktop that have access to facebook and google (Wordpress, also). We stayed in the double room... More

This hostal is located just outside Dali's old town city walls. Fine, so you don't have the hassle of going into the old town but are still nearby. The very friendly staff speak basic but understandable English. The communal area is convienient with a nice innergarden. Rooms are clean yet simple with a good matress on the floor. (Many Chinese... The hostel is just perfect. We had a (big!) double room with private bathroom/toilet for only 120 yuan per night. The food is correctly priced and good. The hostel organised a movie night, a dumpling course and explained the majong game. There is a good atmosphere, staff is very friendly and helpful. The bus to kunming is only 150m from... More

Almost definitely. From the moment we called to get directions, Matt; the receptionist / bar man / manager / all round good guy, was nothing but helpful and gave us plenty of tips on what to do in Dali and options of where to go next. The hostel itself is very clean including the room (doubles with ensuite available), it... More

GReat location as the bus from Lijiang drops you off just a few minutes away. Five minutes walk from the old town. Quiet at night. Is safe and secure and it's fine to walk around at night from the old town. Good meeting place for people. Staff are really friendly and helpful, especially Matt and there's a good atmosphere where... More

Rooms were one of the biggest I found in Yunnan. The hotel is nice and doesn't feel crowded. Staff at reception will assist you to book airplanes tickets, buses and else. Good value indeed. Walking distance to the old city. If going to Lijiang, a van will pick you up right at the hotel entrance and drop you where the... More
