We chose Five Elements because of these good reviews on Tripadvisor and the prompt responses they replied to our queries. At first we only booked one night, later we ended up staying four nights because of San Yue Festival held in April. As other said, this is a very homey hostel. Coming into Five Elements felt like coming home to... More

Hello, Sir. I'm the manager from Five elements Hostel Dali, China. We concerned that you give the wrong review to us. 1. there is no hooker around us.We are NOT at a "Red light district" it's safe around our hostel. 2.we don't work still at 3:30 AM. We close at 0:00 AM everyday. It must be mixed by other hostel... More

Young ladies and gentlemen at the front desk spoke excellent English and were uber helpful. One staff even went downtown to sort out some train ticket confusion. Great location (tho not as shown in lonely planet map - one street further west FYI). Much less crowded feeling than next door at the jade emu. it is nice to have access... More

Our first time in a hostel. Travelled with family and rented a family room. Very clean and well maintained place. Easy to locate nestled in a quite place in the old town of Dali. Very friendly staff and excellent service. We will surely revisit. Subu, Guangzhou

The rooms are well prepared for guests. The food there is tasty and made properly. It is located near restaurants which is a thumbs up for hungry travelers. Try this place if you want to take a relaxing break.

We were very happy to spend our 3 days in Dali in this friendly hotel. The rooms are large, clean and cozy, the location just across the road from the busy old town perfect. The best thing about this place is the super friendly stuff who supported us with travel tipps even outside of Yunnan and helped us organize train... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in October 2013, we had an en suite twin room on the second floor of the main building. The staff were all really friendly and most spoke very good English. The hostel is a 5 minute walk from the west gate of Dali old town, you do need to cross a multi-lane highway to... More

We booked via Hostelbookers and ended up extending our night stay by another night. Our double room was very nice with a large double bed, warm blankets and comfy pillows. We also had a dressing table and bedside tables with large double sliding glass doors. Owners were helpful and there’s a great communal area with free pool table and seating... More

this place is adequate and gets most things right, but should maybe step up its game a little, as it is next to jade emu. tour info could use some help/updating. the common areas are rather nice, and better than jade emu's IMHO. watching movies in the lounge is really great and cozy. dorm beds could use more padding or... Thank you for your review, Andrea. As you suggest, we are now updating tour info. You are right, some mattresses in dorms are thin. We'll use more padding. More
