If you’re visiting Birmingham, don’t miss the opportunity to stay at the magnificent Tutwiler Hotel in downtown. I found the Tutwiler by reading reviews of hotels on TripAdvisor. I learned the hard way to always consult TripAdvisor first (not later when I’m complaining). The Tutwiler (owned/run by Hampton Inn) is a first class hotel with first class service. The front... more

The four of us have been friends for 20 years. We are from Birmingham, Chicago, Atlanta and Tennessee. We met for a weekend to really talk to each other about what's going on in our lives, our kids lives, career, etc. Not to mention have some drinks unencumbered by children and that whole responsibility. The Tutwiler was the perfect spot.... more

We had a great stay at the Tutwiler back in mid March 2008. The ambiance of the hotel reminded us of a favorite hotel in New Orleans. We booked a one bedroom suite with a pull out sofa bed, because our son was with us. The only problem we encountered was the bathtub did not drain properly, but we informed... more

We stayed there the night after we got married and it was great. Quick check-in and check-out. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff was great about letting someone else collect our belongings after we left (of course with permission.) There is breakfast on one of the top floors and it was great. The front desk... more

I stayed here one night. The person at the reception was very curtious. I was surprised that a Hampton Inn would be so nice. The lobby was great with photographs depicting history of Alabama. The very nice bar near the lobby with modern interior designs. The room is really nice. Nice furniture and linens. One thing puzzled me -- the... more

My wife and I stayed at the Tutwiler for one night while in Birmingham to see the exhibit on Pompeii at the Museum of Art. We were very favorably impressed with the hotel. The renovation was extremely attractive and our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. As is typical of Hampton Inns (the current owner of the Tutwiler), the breakfast... more

My wife and I have used the Tutwiler for more than ten years for visits to Birmingham. We again stayed in December 2007, this time to visit family for the holidays. The renovation/preservation of the hotel is absolutely remarkable and so very impressive. The Tutwiler retains its historic charm, but the upgrades in sleeping rooms and common areas of the... more

I stayed in a one bedroom suite in this hotel in early December and could not be more pleased with the room and value. Although the hotel is now a Hampton Inn property, you would never know that it's no longer a privately owned small hotel, as it still has the feel and look of a leading small hotel. Frankly,... more

This is about the 3rd time I stayed at this hotel. Not your typical Hampton Inn Experience. This is a classy old place, very nice rooms. Stayed in a King suite. They just did a $9million renovation and it shows. The only parking is Valet, they treat you like a king here! I highly recommend it! more
