Chengde is a wonderful city. We have just had the most wonderful Chinese meal around the corner from the hotel and walking back, we experienced a myriad of middle aged dancers on the street. Some were ball rooming, some looked like Mao's last, but how could you not enjoy the place and the hotel. Our room is lovely, clean and... More

Dreadfully tired hotel with smoky smelly rooms and the staff told us the air con was turned off by management to save money as it was going to be 12 overnight. We got them to open a window. The air fan itself was working if you like loud mechanical creaking. Hot water and clean sheets. Bring own tea bags. All... More

At the end of a 3 week tour of China only 2 hotels were poor and this was one of them. Our experience aligns with many of the others so if considering a stay read carefully. I think we are fairly tolerant of small problems in isolation, but this hotels was bad in so many respects. ie. 1, So cold... More

I've lived and travelled in China regularly since 1997, and this is one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. As other reviewers note, the quality of the rooms and service is awful--not so unusual in China--but what really makes this place bad is the cheating: outrageous charges, billing for services never rendered, outright fraud and lies from the... Chengde is not Beijing. It doesn't have the sophistication of the capital city but it does have a charm of its own. This hotel (allegedly) is the best in the city and we arrived just as a wedding was finishing. Lots of pink and red balloons festooned the lobby but there was a strange smell about the place and it... More

If you expect a 4 star hotel, you will be disappointed. Rooms are dirty and humidity his visible along the walls of the room. Don't look from too close the floor covering, the rest of the previous customer's meals are clearly visible. Breakfast for non Chinese visitors is inexistent. you are pushed in a small separated dinner room with a... More

A truly awful hotel, I'm inclined to give it a negative star rating, but I can't. Resist any efforts to steer you to this hotel because other hotels in Chengde do not offer western amenities or do not accept credit cards. Neither is true. It certainly doesn't rate its supposed 4 star rating. Where to start? Missing light fixtures and... More

Lovely hotel by the river in Chengde and handy for the shopping mall(shiny, designer and very Harrods!), local market(across bridge)and main shopping street with local Macdonalds! Lobby area of hotel is very sparkling and features two huge wooden elephants and a well-vegetated koi pond. The rooms are clean and pleasant although just a little dated. Hard beds are good for... Yes beds were very hard, service perfunctory and we experienced a terrible school show as part of our "entertainment. " Hotel seemed clean though, the best facility was a roof garden on floor above the bar where sharing your bottles of wine with friends gave by far the best view and entertainment.

The hotel is a little tired and the beds incredibly hard, but the staff are friendly and cheerful. It was disappointing to find one was charged for using the tea/coffee in the room, but at least there was a kettle available. The hotel is very nicely situated, by the river, and handy for the town centre.
