We weren't expecting much here in the small(ish) city of Kaili, but new mill inn turned out to be fantastic. The receptionist couldn't speak any English but we made do with google translate on the computer and got a twin room for 100RMB per night. It was a lovely clean room with all the amenities. They also came in to... More

We stayed here three nights from the 24th to the 27th of june 2013. We first chose a cheap 4-person room with bunk beds, but it was on the ground floor which seemed like a noisy place to be, so we upgraded to two private 2-bed rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The value was quite good, but our... More

The New Mill Inn is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the fairly dirty Chinese city in which its based, which is nonetheless at te center of many minority villages many will find fascinating. There is Internet in the lobby, which is a basic setup and not where you'd necessarily want to spend a whole day. Sheets etc... More

We stayed for 2 nights at a cost of approx £8 per night (no breakfast) so were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Its a simple, small hotel down a side alley but close to the shops and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and helpful and were able to speak and understand English (enough to get by). The... From roughly 2 am to 7 am, there is relative quiet in the alley containing the New Mill Inn. You have no choice but to catch some sleep during these five hours. The rest of the night it is absolute bedlam: hammering, loud conversation and mahjong parties from the outside and loud conversation and slamming of doors from your fellow... More

We stumbled across this hotel after searching for the budget hotel listed in Lonely Planet that no longer exists and being turned away from several other hotels not licenced to take foreigners. They were offering some sort of introductory rate when we stayed which was really great value - in fact this ws probably the best value hotel we stayed... More

Rooms are good quality (the only beds I've slept on in China that aren't harder than a snooker table), but the main draw was owner Rex, who was unbelievably helpful; not only did he come to meet us in the pouring rain, but he also checked train ticket availability online (which we could not do as the website was in...
