It's important not to get confused between Jiayuguan International Hotel (da jiudian) and Jiayuguan Hotel (binguan) since the latter is in the center of the city, and the subject of this review, at the south end, close to east lake, and a bit more inconvenient. Jiayuguan is small industrial city and not a popular destination for westerners. There was just enough English in the hotel for us to muddle through and the staff did their best. This place was clearly built with the town's growth in mind, but when I stayed here in April, 2010 the hotel was essentially empty but for my group and a handful of Chinese guests. Group travels are put in the old wing away from the main lobby. Rooms are average; beds are hard.
