We spent 8 night and days at Explora and did 13 excursions plus the astronomy. Each day built upon the previous. We started slow and did two walking tours locally. Each day we extended ourselves and enjoyed the horse riding activities as much as we could squeeze in. The guides were excellent. The variety of experience was left up to... more

San Pedro de Atacama is a very special place and staying at Explora is a complete different experience. The staff is great, anything you can imagin is provided in the trips out of the hotel and this is made as comfortable as can be within the hotel's eco-limitations. Errr, well there is the price... more

My dad (62) and I (22) stayed at Explora en Atacama end of January and we can only give positive comments about the whole stay. On arrival we were personally welcomed by Mrs Sigall, the hotel manager, and then lead around the hotel by a guide. Although we arrived far before check-in time, we were offered lunch, a room that... more

The explorations are the main reason for going to the Explora and the ones we did were incredibly well run. But choosing the explorations every evening was a bit of a pain with guides giving incomplete, sometimes incorrect information. Nor did it help that the printed guide to the explorations they give you is out-of-date. So although we had a... more

We just returned from 3 nights at the Atacama Explora. It was truly a delightful experience. The rooms are understated but extremely comfortable and appropriate for the type area and type of travel. The food was excellent...better than the Explora in Patagonia. Breakfast was a lovely buffet...but eggs could be ordered separately. There was fruit andpancakes and meat and cheese...fresh... more

We did Explora Patagonia and Atacama combo package. It was an absolutely amazing experience – the guides, staff, walks, the hikes, horseback riding (horses are fine quality horses – take it from a real cowboy!) through the Oasis of San Pedro- everything. The lodge has an amazing architecture structure that blends in perfectly with this extraordinary part of the world.... more

When we first arrived at Explora Atacama I was surprised at how plain everything looked but after a little exploring realized that this is indeed a remarkable facility. Our room wasn't spacious but was plenty large enough to accommodate both of us and our luggage. The main lodge is very nice inside and very spacious. The pools looked great but... more

We spent a month in South America in high end hotels and this place by far out-did all the others. The fodo is amazing, the wine is amazing, the staff are amazing (and so friendly - you feel as if you are part of their group immediately... especially the Macarenas and Max), the tours are phenomenal and so well prepared,... more

The concept is great -- an active resort in the forbidding, lunar landscape on the Atacama Desert. And it's perfectly executed here. Each evening, while sipping a complimentary Pisco Sour, guest peruse the selection of activities the next day: a hike, a bike ride, horseback, or a cultural jaunt. You sign up for your preferred outing, then eat a healthy... more
