I stayed here 2 nights and was disappointed by the service. The older people of the staff were friendly (though definitely not as warm as elsewhere in Myanmar) but the young guys were not helpful at all and seemed uninterested. The guys didnt speak a word of english! Rooms are very noisy, but you are warned of this in the... More

This is the fourth or maybe fifth time we've visited Nyaung Shwe and stayed here, which in itself says something. It resembles in its one level, straight layout with running verandas on both sides the Ponderosa bunkhouse of the 60s TV series, enhanced by the wagon wheel fence at the street frontage. The staff are helpful and courteous and the rooms... We booked for four nights over email a couple weeks ago. No problem on arrival, we got the room mentioned by email. The room is very clean (they also make our beds and empty garbage bags everyday). Additionally, we get two bottles of water for free everyday. The private bathroom is also perfect for us. They may have small towels... More

I spent 3 days at May Guest House after reading all the reviews and decided to stay there. First, all the reviews are so helpful for me because everything is right. So, I will point out some facts for preparation before joining May Guest House. 1. BOOK the room first, by phone or by mail - You will have a... More

I stayed in May Guesthouse when I was in Nyaung Shwe, and I truly enjoyed staying here! Accommodation around Nyaung Shwe can be slightly more costly than other parts of Myanmar, but May Guesthouse, while being well within budget for a backpacker like me, provided a level of service and care that was truly memorable. This may have prejudiced my... More

Yes, as everyone says the walls are thin but by 10pm all is quiet so I didn't really see this as an issue. The room I had was at the back of the property and was clean and tidy with everything I needed. The ensuite bathroom was basic but clean and the hot water was actually hot. I loved the... More

Staff is really nice and willing to help. Min (I guess he is the manager) speaks good English and knows a lot about the area and helps with travel issues. Otherwise we agree with the other reviews (thin walls, loud prayers and singing from the monastery).

All in liked this place. Staff were helpful and suggested a great bike tour, complete with map. Set up was generally good with a nice garden/restaurant area to chill in and a nice reception area too. Unfortunately the walls between rooms are paper thin so the 'Silent time after 10' notices aren't to stop rowdy guests but to stop anybody... More

I really enjoyed my four nights' stay at May Guesthouse. The owner and staff are wonderful, so helpful and kind; the breakfasts are great (generous portions of toast and eggs, or pancakes, plus fruit and tea or coffee with either choice), and the large rooms are clean and cosy. Crucially though, the garden is a true oasis. I really enjoyed... More

Cheesy title I know :P It is conveniently located. Got on a tuc tuc, rode for 5 minutes, paid 1000MMK each (probably overpriced) and arrived at May. It is a well-run establishment with professional staff. I think folks that think it's overpriced are perhaps comparing it to other places in South East Asia but when it comes to Myanmar and... More
