We stayed only for one night in August 2007. We arrived at the hotel around 8 pm, and could tell this was not a safe area to be walking around at night. The check-in took longer than expected, although the staff was friendly and courteous. I speak spanish fluently, and understand some portuguese which helped since the person did not... More

Good location and breakfast. Hotel faces main sqare and Municipal Theater and Aqueduct. At this time part of the lobby is being demolished. At our arrival front desk clerk showed up in jeans and somewhat dirty shirt. Hallway and room carpet very dirty.Windows not soundproof.Street noise very loud at 13th level ! Toilet shutoff valve eventually turns off after 4 loud... More

Well this hotel definitely deserves a review because I had a great stay there. It is a clean, well-located hotel in the downtown area of Sao Paulo. You are close to everything - metro, shopping, ATMs, monuments to see, amongst the theatre district and other sites. Very interesting and truly a bargain for what you get. You have a large,... More

This hotel seemed like a stately but affordable hotel from the website. Unfortunately when we arrived, we heard that it was a very nice hotel about 20 years ago. Absolutely no one spoke any English and there was no concierge. The doorman looked confused when I pointed to the sign above the desk that read `concierge`. We were left to... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
To truly know São Paulo, you have to start at the old center, full of history and landmarks with stories to tell. Get a taste of local food at the Municipal Market, and if you are brave enough, head to the crowded shopping street “25 de março” for cheap deals on a wide assortment of items. Beautiful buildings in this area include the Post Office Building, Luz Station, Pagé Gallery, Pateo do Colegio and the iconic “Viaduto do Chá”. If you find yourself amazed by the local language, the Museum of Portuguese Language is the place to go. Cultural centers, like Banco do Brasil’s, also offer a variety of entertainment options. Finally, if you fancy watching a Gregorian mass with organ music, stop by São Bento Monastery on a Sunday morning.
