Named after the Ipiranga River, this region is home to Independence Park, where it’s said Brazilian Independence was proclaimed. Its gardens and the tree-lined main street offer visitors a gracious view. The neighborhood also hosts assorted museums and has a strong local feel. Ipiranga is a calm area, with a variety of good dining places and its own Municipal Market, which features flowers, meat, vegetables, fruits and some special events. Outside the main subway stations you can experience the busy streets, but you just need to walk a few blocks to get back the residential serenity of the area.
