I have lived in Sao Paulo and know the downtown area well, so I like staying at the Maraba because it is very well located in the city, and is very comfortable. The beds and the showers are the best. Breakfast buffet is varied and of good quality. I especially like the Brazilian high end crafts used to decorate the... More

Due to an unfortunate change in the flight schedule our airline brought us to this hotel for a single night with the family. They were very flexible and helpful in providing us a room that slept 5. The breakfast was ok and there was plenty of choice. The appearance of the hotel is a bit dated, but the beds were... More

I have stayed at Maraba on several occasions while doing business in São Paulo and I don't have much to complain. The neighborhood is not the nicest especially at night and there are masses of homeless people in the area. I wouldn't wander around after 9-10pm without a local guide who knows where to go and not to go. The... More

I knew that this classic old downtown hotel had been renovated completely about 18 months ago so when I needed a place to stay in the city centre I booked it. I used booking.com to make my booking and specified that I wanted wi-fi internet, car parking, and I noted that the room would be available from noon. When I... More

If you want to experience the historical centre of Sao Paulo, the Maraba hotel was certainly a nice choice. I thought the area around the hotel was very safe. Dont worry! The rooms are very small, but functional. We stayed there for two nights and then flew to Rio.

Staff here are very friendly and correct. We also managed to get a price of 260 Rais per night, which was below internet price (around 300) and way below standard price (420 rais). The hotel is great for a walk around the old town, which today is more of a dystopia (read Gotham city), but which used to be one... More

Stayed here for 4 nights. The staff were extremely warm and friendly upon our arrival. Check in was a breeze even though neither of us speaks Portuguese. The room was very contemporary and modern. Would definitely stay here again.

Finding comfortable, clean and affordable accommodation with a decent level of service in Sao Paulo is becoming a challenge. This place is relatively new (a renovation of a near derelict property), and if it continues in the way it is being run it could be well worth considering. Rooms, well, OK, my room! - was a decent size, well set... More

we pulled up and nobody came to the car to open the doors and they looked at us funny when we asked where to park the car, nobody spoke English, They don't have irons in the room and it cost over $20 to iron two shirts!! The room was tiny with the bed not even 2 feet from the door.... More

We have stayed there one night during a business trip. We have a very pleasant stay in a very confortable room. Good service and a very good breakfast also. I would recomend this hotel for all businees travellers in Sao Paulo.

Staying in Republica

Neighborhood Profile
Republica
Part of the historical center of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighborhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
