I haev traveled through out Brazil, but this place sticks out. The owners are great-hospitable, but not corny. Ilha Grande is astoundingly beautiful and Asalem captures it perfectly. MUST STAY HERE at least once in your life. more

We took the ferry from Angra dos reis, cost 6 reals per person. Arrived at the dock where Levy came to collect us on the taxi boat, and took us to Asalem. We were greeted by friendly staff, and shown our room, the view was abosolutley breath-taking, and definately the best view on the whole island. The room was clean... more

My wife and I spent four lovely nights at Asalem as part of our honeymoon in August ’07. Ilha Grande is a beautiful Island retreat two and a half hours from Rio de Janeiro and Asalem has to be the most beautiful place to stay on the island. Ilha Grande being an island quite untouched by main stream tourism is wonderful already. Pousada Asalem fits in very well. The owners are working hard to make your stay worthwile. The food is much better than in the restaurants in the town nearby. The rooms are simple, but adequate. There is no luxury here, but you will not miss it.... more
