Was great place to stay for me and my mate, we are both 27 were up for seeing rio, having a party and getting some time on the beach. Rooms were well kept, really cool garden and hammocks, easy access to ipanema beach and the surrounding areas. Not too much nightlife near by but we had done that in Lapa... More

Had this place recommended to us by a friend who knows the owner. We booked a private double with our own bathroom. It was very good for the 4nights we stayed. As others point out, the location is very very good. Literally a short block, 50m or so from the sands of Ipanema. A really secure place too and the... More

This was my 3rd visit to Brazil and my 5th time staying at mango tree. And my first carnaval! I took the carnaval 7 day package as this is compulsory (and typical of most accommodation in Brazil for carnaval). We took a private en-suite and our package included a free BBQ on the Friday night before carnival officially began. Sadly... More

Was recommended this hostel by 2 separate couples. Stayed in the luxury ensuite room. As other reviews state, towels don't get changed, bed sheets very thin and air con& fan quite noisy but you are staying at a hostel. Breakfast included which had a good selection of muesli and toast. Great options of tours (though laundry price seemed quite steep... More

What a brilliant hostel! It IS very basic but well located, near the beach and metro station in a safe area. Close to supermarkets too. Excellent common areas; easy to meet people and helpful English speaking staff. Wifi isn't great, its better near the front of the hostel. Need to fix their computers, only one was working. They don't have... More

I absolutely love staying at the Mango Tree. The facilities are not that great, but every time I visit this place, there are always so many wonderful people from all over the world. I have met such incredible people here. It is literally a few blocks away from the best part of Ipanema - POSTO 9!

In the booking confirmation it said that we booked a room with a private bathroom. Upon arrival we were told that the room we booked had a shared bathroom on the hallway. When we referred to the confirmation in the email we were told that the person who wrote that doesn't work there anymore. No apologies. The shared bathroom was... More

I really enjoyed my stay at the Mango Tree. Its has a great atmosphere. Good breakfast, there's a common kitchen, big common area. One block from the beach, and close to various bars, restaurants and a supermarket. I think the only bad part is that doesn't have a big locker in the room, just a drawer under the bed, but... More

Wonderful hostel, one block from Ipanema beach, and near shops and restaurants, buses, and the airport bus. Friendly, nice bar area, but not noisy for sleeping. Really helpful staff and can organise tours through them. Great breakfast with cereal, bread, fruit, drinks, yoghurt. Not too many bathrooms so can sometimes be a wait to use them. Would happily stay again.

I spent 9 nights with a friend and we had a wonderful time there. The staff was really friendly and nice people. We met very cool people, the location was excellent, breakfast very good and the room with air condition was very comfy. I really recommend this hostel without hesitation. Thanks for all the orientation and the good vibe!. I... More
