It is always a great pleasure to stay in this beautiful property in the heart of Santa Teresa, enhanced by a careful restoration. I remember pleasant moments of tranquility and relaxation, even in the middle of the carnival. Friendly staff.

If you are going to this gorgeous little boutique in Santa Theresa. Less of a hotel than an exquisite secret club you are granted access to. The colonial splendors of the hotel are only surpassed by the graciousness of the staff. You can't get to the end of all the languages they know or the things that they are willing... More

This is an amazing place to stay. Santa Theresa is a cool, hillside spot away from the beach but it's definitely worth spending some time here if you can and Mama Ruisa is a great converted villa with super chilled vibe, great taste in decor and one of, if not the, best breakfasts I've had. We looked forward to it... More

A beautiful turn-of-the-century villa on a small side street in the middle of Santa Teresa. The villa exudes charm and style. There is an lavish common living room which overlooks the pool and lush garden. Rooms are furnished exceptionally tastefully, and each room has its own theme. Suites have wooden parquet floors, high ceilings, and a large balcony with city... More

Everything was ok until my check out when the owner of the hotel decided to pack my luggage while me and my family was out. My husband paid half of a daily rate for a late check and agreed when he did the booking that he would leave by 4:30-5PM but by 4PM Mr. Jean decided enter in our room... More

I can't give enough praise to the two ladies who work at the front desk of this hotel. The service was above and beyond anything I could have asked for. They both spoke perfect English and went out of their way to be helpful. The other employees were equally helpful, though didn't speak English. The house is beautiful, large, and... More

Mamaruisa is a little treasure in bustling Rio. The comfortable and welcoming rooms, the superb living room with its unique view on Rio and the relaxing dining area and swimming pool are matched only by the impeccable service and availability of Jean-Michel and his team! There's no question - this is THE place to stay in Rio!

I travel the world for my business and must communicate my wonder and delight at having found this hidden gem in Rio. Ensconced in the quiet but hip neighborhood of Santa Teresa, with a commanding view of Sugarloaf, Mama Ruisa offers the traveler a quiet and beautiful oasis from the bustle of Rio life. The owner and proprietor Jean Michel... More

We spent 4 nights at Mama Ruisa in March 2014. Our experience was simply wonderful. First of all, the people working there are outstanding and helpfull, from calling taxis for us to going out at the street to let the taxi know where we wanted to go. They would suggest ways for us to go to attractions, bars, etc. Always... More
