My partner and I have just returned from a three night stay at this stunning hotel. This wonderfully charming place is the antidote to all those ubiquitous anodyne chain hotels. The decor is delightfully eclectic and highly unique creating an understated, somewhat old colonial, feel. The suite was large with all the mod-cons.The bed was huge and comfortable. The view over rio was simply stunning afforded... I have to say having stayed in Rio for many years this was by far my most enjoyable hotel experience. From the moment I arrived all the staff were extremely friendly, if always respectful of one's space as well. The décor is incredible, the mix of the contemporary art, with the religious icons and the simple local handicrafts made for... More

My girlfriend and I stayed for 4-5 nights at Jean Michel's wonderful house. The entire house is tastefully designed and so are the big rooms. We had everything we needed and Jean Michel did a huge effort in making the most out of our days in Rio. He arranged visits at one of the local artist atelier, exhibitions around in... More

We stayed for four nights in the Carmen Miranda suite in this delightful boutique hotel in the hilly neighborhood of Santa Teresa. All of the staff were extremely helpful to make us feel comfortable from the moment we got there to the moment we left. From helpful directions about how to explore Rio (which streets are safe, where to eat,... More

We absolutely loved our stay at Mama Ruisa. We were so warmly looked after and everyone was so helpful in making sure we got the most out of our trip to Rio. Brilliant location in a beautiful neighbourhood with lots of great local cafes and restaurants and so easy to get everywhere else in Rio using taxis. Super comfortable room... More

Excellent and central location, very attractive building and pool, offering very good service. Strongly recommend for people looking to stay in Santa Teresa at a place with great character and space at a reasonable price.

We just spent one night here in May 2015. Were very well received by the owner. He also gave us many suggestions on what to see in the area and in Rio and for restaurants nearby. Great to be able to walk to some good bars and restaurant nearby. Safe area, no problems. Nice and laid-back atmosphere in the neighbourhood.... More

Mama Ruisa is housed in a lovely colonial home in the Sta. Teresa neighborhood of Rio. Jean Michel and his staff are more than accommodating. They already have itineraries for the various neighborhoods of the city with suggestions of things to see and do. Breakfast is more than plentiful and very delicious, served on the back terrace overlooking the city.... More
