I have been assigned a room that clearly was a reconditioned basement, It even had water pipes in the middle of the from. While the location is great, everything else SUCKS. Staff is not helpful, most of them do not speak Spanish or English. The (only) common area is extremely small and hot (no air conditioner). Also my room got... More

So bad, took them 25 minutes to check me in, they could´t find my reservation even tho I had the confirmation on me!!!!! The place looks like a maze, really narrow corridors, dirty, the guest kitchen was a joke! The receptionists did not seem to care, extremelly obnoxious. When I went to get drinks at their bar, the bartender had... More

Che Lagarto is a very good choice. The staff speaks good English, is friendly and helpfull. The rooms are good and there is a nice atmosphere. Breakfast is included and fine. In a very short walking distance there is an Metro en ATM.

I've been to the Che Lagarto in Ilha Grande and it was quite good, so we decided to stay in the one in Copacabana. Big mistake... Good things : - cheap - very good location Bad things : - OVERCROWDED rooms! I was in a 8 beds dorm and it was impossible for everybody to be in the room at... More

I went to Che Lagarto with some friends for a congress, so we didn’t intend just to chill out, but also to wake early and go to the event. We stayed there for 4 days in the 8-bed room with a shared bathroom. It was a good experience and I do recommend this place, there’re some “buts”, though. PROS -... More

I don't know where to start. How about with the prison like showers/ toilets. Not one bathroom was clean during my stay. Rooms are VERY small and there's no working wifi in rooms. (Even though there's a router on every floor) Out of the 4 hostel on my vacation this is by far the worst. I suggest everyone to spend... More

Pros : Staff Location Price Cons : Infrastructure Taking in consideration this is a hostel, my staying was ok. Staff is very helpful and friendly. I had no problems using public transportation from the hostel, metro station and bus stops are no more than a block away. I had trouble with the AC this place has to offer. On the... More

Yes, the location is good, but the hostel is not. At first we stayed in a 6 bed dorm with bathroom. It was small and the shower was cold. In the second night there was dripping water from the roof in our room. We complained and switched the room to a 6 bed dorm which was way too small for... More

Type of bathrooms should be changed. For the whole block just 3 showers and toilets are in the same cabins... So it makes toilet wet all the time. But stuff are incredibly friendly! Location just amazing and people around! I met lots of good friends there. Also plus that hostel organize different events.

Hadn't stayed in a hostel for a while so this was a bit of a shock! In a good way though, very clean and good amenities and of course close to the beach! Staff were great and very helpful, plus the hostel runs a lot of tours and nights out for those travelling alone. Female dorm wasn't spacious but I... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighborhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
