We stayed three nights in the private room (with bathroom) in December. It's a great old heritage house with lots of great finishing (stained glass, high ceilings, etc.) and seems to have been renovated in some areas. We didn't mind our stay, as nothing went wrong (other than the power going out for a few hours during a spectacular lightening... More

Poor poor you! You silly 'guy with a female atitude' behind the desk, why are you working at a hostel? Never be root to the clients when you make mistakes and can't turn it back. That is the whole problem with this hostel. A girl who is in training tries her best to give advice, but Google your question and... More

We enjoyed our 4 nights at Rio Hostel a lot. What really drew us in was the partly-roofed but still outdoor bar on the top of the building (it was raining a bit). The barkeeper Pimenta was awesome and does a wicked (if not super-cheap) twist on Caipirinhas. The breakfast is above-average but nothing to brag about, the sandwich-toaster is... More

This hostel is in a great location of Santa Teresa. It offers a great pool and funky areas to enjoy. I was disappointed however to book online and pay a little more for a 4 bunk dorm for females only to arrive and found out it is actually a 6 person mixed dorm. When I mentioned this to a staff... We booked for two nights at Rio Hostel Santa Teresa in order to be in a more central location, and because we had previously stayed at Rio Hostel Ipanema (same owners). Santa Teresa has a reputation for being an artist's hangout, it's a big contrast with the Zona Sul beach suburbs (Ipanema, Copacabana, Leblon). We found that although we were... More

The Rio Hostel is a really nice place to stay. Location is perfect and the whole crew is very friendly (special thanks to the manager Luigi ;))!! The Hostel is extremely clean and spacious. They serve a really good breakfast and if you don't want to go out, they have a nice bar in the Hostel. You can choose between... More

Great, room, great attention. The hostel is clean, well organised. The view was amazing, good places to drink a beer are close to the hostel. Maybe I'll find some days a breakfast outside the hostel, cause is always the same.

The hostel itself is OK; rooms and beds are comfy, its clean, there are kitchen facilities and computers with internet. The price is right for a hostel in Brazil and the location St Teresa/Lapa is very good. Still I did NOT have a good experience! This has everything to do with the staff, who are just so incredibly unfriendly and... More

We were in a double room with bathroom, without hot water and very small size, close to the kitchen and with noise all night long. Poor Breakfast and no service at all. At night the best option is to take a taxi because is a dangerous area.
