A good hostel in a well placed location. Pity that they close reception in the evening and then don't seem to have the staff to look after booked late arrivals. Or for that matter have the ability to take payments early in the morning. It's hard to determine who is running this place, there is a mix of people nad... More

I do find there to be anything appealing about this place. I am not a picky traveller and have stayed in my fair share of hostels but for the price of this place, it is not worth it. I stayed in an 8 person all girls dorm with air conditioning. Not only was the dorm incredibly cramped (with hardly any... More

Good place to stay when you are on a budget. Polite people, good hostel environment. Just beware of the steps to get the desk. Free internet, wireless. Do not expect too much. Very close to old area of RJ. Far from the beaches. Be ready to catch buses or taxi. Enjoy!! More

If you aren't fussy and want to get a little taste of how some Brazilians live then I recommend staying here. Location: Santa Teresa - the hotel is located up a hill about a 15 minute walk from the busy part of the city. Great if you want to be away from all the traffic, because the place is on... More

We'd booked 3 nights in this hostel as it had a great review in the Footprint guide. However, the dorm room by reception is unbelievably cramped, with no space at all for your backpack, and lockers are outside the room. The door was also kept wide open at all times, and although security into the hostel itself is very good... More

This is really a place for kids backpacking the world . . . and if you decide to move to more suitable accommodations, they keep half of the deposit money you gave them. There are about three flights of stairs to get to the first level of the hostel. There was no safe inn the room, which was totally cement.... More

If you want to get a feel for Rio beyond the touristy places, staying at Rio Hostel in Santa Theresa is good start. While not located right down town, it's still central, close to cosy cafés, great little shops, and the night life in Lapa. The hostel has an amazing view of the city, and with spacious rooms in a... Great location, nice staff. We had a private room and bath with hot water - both comfortable. Nice view from the room. We had a small problem during our stay and the management and staff took care of everything in a professional way. Breakfast was nice - typical Brazilian - bread, cheese and lots of fruit. We had access to... More

Well we must have missed something. Our private room was right by the kitchen and noisy as he'll. Not to mention the tv at night as well. The shower was a joke the water was either really cold or too hot to stand under. Nowhere in between. No air con in the room. The breakfast is a joke. Toast and... More

We stayed here for 5 nights, we had only booked for 3 and loved the hostel so much we decided to stay longer. Staff are very helpful and friendly and it has a real nice atmosphere to hang out in. Our room was great, nice double bed and a hammock, great views over Rio. Breakfast was good, nice big kitchens... More
