Paysandu is possibly the worst hotel I've ever been to. I had a reservation for 2 nights. The first room we were given was unattractive, but at least had a good deal of natural light. However, it smelled like it had just been vacated by...how do I put this?...an old prostitute. Unbelievable, unbearable stench of cigarettes and nasty, cheap perfume.... More

I travel a lot and on budget, but this place is a dump. I would not give it any star at all... ok, if you pushed maybe one... I booked this place to stay for two night in January. I was meeting up with my daughter who was already in Rio for the new year. It was my second trip... More

I had a short 2 night stay in that hotel. The location was very nice. I had the feeling I was the only tourist around. Nice restaurants with good food in the neigborhood. I have not checked out the local beaches, so for thet I think Copacabana is the better but more expensive place. The hotel was ok, helpful staff,... More

Be very careful when booking this hotel on-line - their booking page stated 'if you have not received an e-mail within 24 hours your booking is not confirmed' - we didn't so tried to book again (website does not contain an email address) and eventually went into the hotel in person to confirm our booking. The receptionist told us no... More

Hotel is located in a safe neighbourhood. Front desk staffs are friendly & can provide a lot of useful info, however the room is not worth for the price I paid; bathroom cleanliness is a big concern, I can see dust all over the ceiling. Went to the attached restaurant, A bit on the pricey side but the food is... More

This hotel was recommended by colleagues in Rio for its location (Flamengo). We made our reservations two weeks before our arrival, but when we got at the hotel, they were "overbooked" and couldn´t find our reservations. The frontdesk guy was rude and after a 30-minute wait, he put us in horrible rooms ( mine was #508). Everything was old, the... More

We booked this hotel online and were able to get a very good rate. The hotel is on a reasonably quiet street in the residential neighbourhood of Flamengo, somewhat removed from the beach scene. That being said Flamengo is a good place to hang out for a day or two. We had booked a "suite" and paid extra for it.... More

It takes a lot for me to leave a hotel, but there was a lot going against this one. - moldy smell, strong, on the rooms. - bad mattress - old dirty furniture - bad breakfast, only one item on the menu each night. - expensive since it it a glorified youth hostel. One night was all I could take... More

Being to Rio for our first time.....this hotel brought us a soft place to call home. The staff are the utmost helpful, kind and know english pretty good. The restaurant is lovely and quaint. Our room was very clean (most important to me) quiet, nothing fancy but for the price.....we were very happy. We were treated so well. Will stay... More

Though it is not pretty Paysandu Hotel is comfortable, clean, centrally located, relatively not too expensive and very well equipped. Our room had internet, TV, safe and mini bar. We found it in Last Minute travel for less than 100$ so obviously we were happy. More
