I went for business and seemed to me a pretty standard and somehow outdated place. This hotel really induced a sense of sadness with its grey environment. 4 blocks from the copacabana beach. Cost-Benefit is very unbalanced. If you going with family or tourism do not book this hotel. Looking for a place to stay at night? This is the... More

Well situated but the standard of an out of date travelodge. Breakfast was fairly good . More

I have stayed a few times as the company I work for have started using this hotel. Average is the word. Its clean does what it says on the tin but that is all. It is typical of many hotels in Rio which just plod along and are really quite basic compared to their star rating. Dont eat in the... More

While this hotel is not a 5 star, it worked just great for us. Like rudee50 said it is very close to both the Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and other attactions. I liked that. Also what I liked was the roof top pool and lounge area. I went up there every morning to read since I'm an early riser and... More

I have to echo what Maria W. said. We recently got back from our stay at the South American and were pretty disappointed with it. On the positive side, it is convenient to Copacabana beach (5 minute walk) and to Ipanema (10 minute walk) and right near several bus stops and a supermarket. Also, the breakfast was pretty good, with... More

We stayed here for two nights at the end of a fantastic cruise, but were so disappointed by the dilapidated state of this hotel. There was no air conditioning in the common parts areas, bar etc which was very uncomfortable. The beds were comfortable and clean, but the whole place was tired and we were told this was 4*. The... This hotel is located just behind Arpoador, right on the border between Copacabana and Ipanema. 4 minutes walk to Copacabana beach, and 10 minutes walk to Ipanema. For the location (provided you can get a good deal) the price was astonishingly good value. Rooms were acceptable. Except for the damned key entry card which had to be reprogrammed almost every... This is a big hotel with large rooms, our was a 70s style - not sure whether all the rooms are in this style - but I didn't mind it at all. With a very large bedroom and a large bathroom I welcomed its 70s feels, maybe a boutique hotel looks more contemporary, but I appreciated the space! The location... More

Spent eight nights after new-year in Rio and stayed at this hotel. Overall we were underwhelmed by this hotel. We say “underwhelmed” instead of “disappointed” or “unhappy” as we do have some appreciation of the price range and quality of hotels in Rio in general, and understand that January is high season. In any other cities this hotel would be... More
