This is an adequate hotel in a delightful neighborhood of Rio. The Copacabana Beach is three blocks to the left out the door of the hotel. Ipanema is 10-12 block walk. It is near restaurants and quaint little shops. My daughter and I felt very safe in the area. The room was adequate. The breakfast, included, was quite good. The... more

Funny, I found the front staff to be very un-friendly. Manager tried to give us a room with a concrete wall view. She said it was her favorite room. We did not take her advise and got a nice room on the fifth floor. The hotel itself is ok. Nice breakfast. But, the pool is tiny and the "fitness" room... more

This hotel is located about a 3-5 min walk to Copacabana Beach and a 8-10 min walk to Ipanema Beach. Both beaches beautiful but Ipanema is the best one. The reception speak good english and just can not do enough for you. So sweet & so helpful. The breakfast buffet is really nice and offers lots of different stuff and... more

We missed a connecting flight, so TAM gave us vouchers for two nights at the South American. We had a triple room, which felt spacious even for three people. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I especially liked the location, about three blocks from Copacabana beach, in a nice neighborhood with little shops nearby. Our room faced the front... more

We had the pleasure to stay 5 nights in this wonderful hotel. The staff and the reception are one of the most friendly and helpfull I've ever met. The breakfast room is great and the buffet is delicious except for the fruit juices. It's water with some fruit taste.Unworthy for a Brazilian hotel. The lobby is nice and so are the bar... more

Our room on the 12th floor overlooked one of the shanty towns or favellas probably a mile or two away if you were to travel there but we had no problems. The hotel is pretty close to Ipanema beach and not far from Copacabana. Rooms are perfectly acceptable although not particularly large. The restaurant is excellent quality and the staff... more

Even though there is a small shanty town quite close to it, we had no problems during our stay, nor did we see anything happen to anybody else. It's not situated in the best part of town, but it's very close to Ipanema (leaving the hotel you should turn right; we tried going to Ipanema turning left and it took... more

A friendly, clean and comfortable hotel at a moderate price. Room service is available 24 hours and is a shhort 2 block walk to the beach. The one bedroom suites are a good deal. Ask for a high floor to avoid street traffic noise during the day. I stay here every time I am in Rio. more
