The room was probably the worst room I have ever stayed in. Bed was uncomfortable, pillows hard, blinds were random Wooden slats that were broken. Air con worked at least. The room was really depressing, like a prison cell. The room service was just poor, the order was wrong though we rang twice confirming it, and the food wasn't great... More

The Merlin is a great hotel, and my boyfriend and I especially enjoyed staying there as a couple. My family stayed in a smaller hotel and was envious of our lobby and common areas; it was great to have these areas to unwind in outside of our room. Here are a few highlights: - Excellent location minutes away from Copacabana... More

This hotel is clean, the air con works well, helpful reception. Overall good value for money given the location. The rooms aren't luxurious, and are a little dated - but a perfect place to stay get an experience of Copacabana.

Good quality for the money. Very good location, Copacabana beach a few minutes walk.... Great, friendly and helpful people. You can find better hotels but I find that people are the main asset of this hotel. I had a very nice time in Merlin/Rio. Love Brasil!

The hotel needs a revamp. 3star hotel at most and is being advertised on Expedia at 4star. I had to change room as the first one I was given was very small and had little storage space for my clothes. The mattress had at least 4 springs broken and one coming through the material. Woke up with a very sore... More

The Merlin was everything we hoped for. Good location with the street leading to the beach, a short walk. Staff were helpful. Accommodation very comfortable, spacious, clean. Super beds! Breakfast buffet perfect for adults, children. Rooftop pool and bar small but more than adequate. Nearest shopping mall a short walk. The whole area was reasonable for shopping, dining. Would most... We were warmly greeted on arrival and this continued throughout our stay - the service was excellent. We had a large room with a nice bathroom and breakfast was ok. Pool area was really nice and spacious - the best rooftop pool we saw in our South American travels. A good place to stay in Copacabana.

The hotel is about 5 mins walk to Copacabana beach (3 blocks away) so if you like to stay close to the beach but want to avoid the night time party noise, this is a good choice. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the reception speak good English (not all of them though) but the room service barely speaks... More

I was impressed with the wood work and how it has been maintained. The suites are straight out of the 70's / 80's elegant interiors with wood work that would blow your mind. It seems that the rooms have not been touched since they were built but very well maintained. The food was not interesting as the steak i ordered... More

Staying in Copacabana

Neighborhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
