We stayed at the Ipanema Plaza for a week in January. Since it was my partner's 40th birthday, I upgraded our room to a "deluxe oceanview room." What a waste of money: - The decor was something out of the 80s - The bed linens were like sand paper - Our ocean view could only be enjoyed (and I use... more

The overall look of this hotel is trendy and new. The rooms are generously sized with comfortable beds and great windows that open. The hotel pool is a great place to hang out and the views of Ipanema and Christ the Redeemer are amazing. It was worth the money to stay here as it is about 200 metres from Ipanema... more

I stayed in this hotel 4 nights in February 2009. The hotel lobby is elegant, reception staff spoke perfect english and were very helpful. Special thanks to Tatyana in reception and Estella in the pool bar! The location of hotel is superb, just few meters to Ipanema beach. Near the hotel there are great restaurants and bars. And the asian... more

Having just spent 9 wonderful days in Buenos Airies and 2 in Iguazu, we were excited about our stay in Rio. However, whilst the location of Hotel was excellent, the room left much to be desired. There were cracks on the tiles around the bath, tarnished plug by sink, broken toilet seat and twice we called a technician as water... more

Perfect location for Rio, 1 block off Ipanema beach and lovely huge superior room with great views. Front desk staff - in at least 50% of interactions - moody and distinctly unhelpful. As this hotel is part of a chain, be prepared for being charged for absolutely everything - they won't give you an iron (24BRL for 2 shirts for... more

Excellent location, less than a block from Ipanema beach. Hotel is less satisfactory. There is a big conference centre - conventioneers are not a great asset when you're holidaying. Breakfast is busy with poor selection. Other meals are oriental and excellent. Staff are typically Brasilian - i.e. friendly yet chaotic. I doubt they could organize themselves out of a paper... more

We stayed in an Ipanema Floor Ocean View on the 16th floor and our room was really nice with all the mod cons one would expect. We received complimentary 'champagne' and strawberries as well as welcome caipirinhas and a 20% discount in their excellent Asian restaurant (we ate there twice). There's a business centre where you can use the complimentary... more

We have just returned from a lovely week in Rio. We booked the hotel for the location which is great but for value for money it is not. Also gay friendly i wouldn't say so. There are many gay couples staying at the hotel due to its location across from the gay beach, but the night staff and the porters... more

The best thing about Ipanema Plaza is the location. Very close to Ipanema Beach and the ever popular Post 9. Devassa is just right across the street and a great place for choppa (beer) in a fun environment mixed with locals and tourist. However, Ipanema is not the Beverly Hills of Rio. It is a nicer part of Rio but... more

Stayed here during christmas and I wasn't disappointed. The location is good, right next to Ipanema beach and all the cafes and restaurants. Rue farme de Amoedo has lots of buzzy bars and cafes to visit. Of course, being in the heart of all this activity means that it can be a bit noisy and probably not good for light... more
