We had an adventure getting to this hostel initially as a result of a taxi driver who refused to use his Sat Nav :-) As mentioned before the man running this hostel in his family home is Alex, who we found very friendly and helpful and understanding when we got there at about midnight. The multi-bed dorm was more cramped... More

My girlfriend and I had booked to stay for 6 nights through Carnaval, having emailed Alex, the owner, and agreeing a price of 720 Reais. Two days before arriving we emailed to check when we could check in and Alex suddenly said the price was wrong and promptly doubled it. He said that he no longer works with pricing which... More

I stayed at the Pousada Santa Trem for the majority of my most recent trip to Rio de Janeiro. I believe in total we stayed there for around 21 nights during the World Cup. The location of the hostel is brilliant. It is only a ten minute walk from Lapa and at the bottom of the street is a bus... More

Three friends and I stayed at this hostel over the World Cup and we were pleasantly surprised by this hostel. The bedrooms may not look much at first but they were more than adequate. The patio area is a good place to hang out and meet other people and there was a good atmosphere around the place. Breakfast was nice... More

Stayed with 4 friends for 6 nights during the football World Cup. Great location next to Lapa for nightlife and the trendy Santa Teresa. Close to banks, shops and transport links. Well maintained clean hostel, nice breakfast every morning. Awesome patio area for evening drinks etc and views over hills nearby. Only negative is some cabs don't know location and... More

It is a lovely place and run by two very nice people. The roof top terracing is lovely to BBQ on or just sit with a beer and look over Botofogo. Rooms were nice. Only downsides were showers were a little cool and getting there by taxi. It is actually very easy to get to by bus and taxi drivers... More

BEWARE! I would advise anyone not to stay here due to the very unpleasant experience we had. On arrival we discovered our double with private ensuite had been downgraded to just a double room and a bathroom elsewhere in the house. Not such a big deal - we were told - on the phone by owner Alex - that this... More

Advertised facilities did not exist. When the owner Alex was there he was exceptional however not there majority of the time. He did get us cheap carnivale tickets and explained he was "renovating" but it was quite bad. We stayed in one of the two upstairs bedrooms which we paid extra for thinking it would be better. Bad mistake. Perhaps... More
