Stayed here for 3 weeks during the World Cup and was definitely a little nervous coming solo to Rio. In retrospect, I was really lucky and found a great place for my whole stay. The atmosphere of this hostel was amazing and after 3 weeks I had a hard time leaving. The owners, Luis and Andre, were great and always... More

Stayed at Vidigalbergue for 3 weeks during the World Cup and it really did seem like a 2nd home. Hostel workers Gabby and Rafa are great fun always willing to join in with the fun and games. There are no issues with this being in a favela, i never once felt unsafe and there is a constant Police presence. The... More

I stayed at vidigalbergue for the entire World Cup and couldn't imagine a better place. Rafa and Gabby are brilliant, and now not just helpful staff but friends for life! Andre and Luis the owners are great fun, and everyone strived to look after us during the cup. A great location, don't worry about it being a favela, it's 100%... More

Stayed there for nearly 2 weeks during the World Cup, Place is great, clean ,comfy and friendly. Is in a pacified Favella and has police presence all the time but not needed as all locals are friendly and fun. About 10 minutes to beaches, plenty of buses passing by to get you into Leblon, Ipanema,Copacabana. Between Rafa and Gabi, Luis... More

I was excited to stay here after reading such great reviews but man were we let down. Our beds had bugs all over them. Ants I think. The staff seemed only interested in entertaining themselves, which is fine but again one of the reviews I read said that the staff were great with getting the guests involved with exploring the... Sorry despite the other glowing reviews I can only give it an average and that was because the staff really helped me out and the view was great. Other than that Im glad I only stayed a night. Upside - Close to beaches and bus stop. Also very cheap and enjoyed the breakfast Downside - Noisy traffic (you need to... More

My friend and I stayed here a couple of days. We moved hostels to this one since the other one got more expensive. We were not expecting such a good time. Not only did we have the best view in Rio, we had an excellent breakfast, excellent company (Kelly is a superstar, we absolutely loved her!). The Argentinian owner of... More
